I personally don't intend on making the crossing. But for those playing at home could u please clarify an "illegal" crossing? Since when did kiting become illegal?
Which PFD do they require? 1,2 or 3. As there are all different types and RedBull are prividing a rashvest to put on over the top anyway.
Thanks

Gonna imagine doing the race at my local spot now...

I think it could be safely considered a breach of the law to break the marine regulation stating "All boats under 3.75 metres (12 feet) in length (including personal watercraft), must stay within five nautical miles from the mainland, unless they are within the limits of a port or within one mile of any island.", from http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/imarine/19242.asp. Even though kiteboarders are not yet classified, enforcement officers would probably be well within reason to apply this rule.
The L2L race would have a dispensation from the Department of Transport and the Port Authority, subject to its safety management plan.
I had a chat to the guys at RedBull today to see if I could get some questions answered.
Q: How will we get gear back off the island?
A: We have 6 or so crates that we will use to ferry all the gear back to the event site as I'm sure competitors will take a variety of gear to choose from.
Q: What PFD is required?
A: PFD 3 should be fine as we will provide a comp rashie to wear over the top
Q: Is there an after party?
A: There sure is..... yeow!!!
Hope this answers some questions. If any one has any others PM me and I'll ask more.
I think I will be racing next saturday (I got an email saying I was in, followed by one saying I was not in ![]()
),
is there any other women racing?
Pity my training has been halted by having slashed and sutured the sole of my foot at Point Walter week ago... jelly leg (s) here I come![]()
Hi there Stabber!
Congratulations on being selected as one of 50 competitors to race in the inaugural Red Bull Lighthouse to Leighton. We can’t wait to have you be apart of Australia’s longest open water kite race!
As an integral part of the festivities afterwards, We at Red Bull emplore you to bring along your Norweigian Back-packer friends, as we hear they can suck start most non-fuel injected combustion engines.
We have also taken the liberty of sabotaging all other competitors (if they can be called "competition") as a token of our undying appreciation of your faithful contribution to our carnal needs.
Our loins await thee our Stabbs...
