just a general rant...
Riders practicing actual tricks get to ride the most upwind point of the beach. Given plenty of room to drop the kite if need be.
Riders just cruising around on their sunday stroll holding their ground can kite at the middle to bottom end of the beach.
I'm sick of having to wait and choose times to try tricks on a congested beach where EVERYONE wants to kite the most upwind point of the beach when their holding their ground perfectly .
end rant. flame on. red thumb.![]()
light the torch
yeah and why dont we introduce coloured armbands to let peolpe know what part of the beach your meant to be kiting in and if you stray out of your area you will be shot ![]()
bige thats life mate, traffic sucks, move to the country
Hmmm. If you're that much better a kiter than the lawn mowers then surely you'll have the speed, manoeuverability and timing to do your tricks in the gaps? If there's not an established circuit then you have to take your chances when you can.
It seems to me that just as experienced kiters can easily spot and stay clear of beginners, the average lawn mower can spot, and will stay somewhat clear of, a rider who is regularly going for stuff. I'm not saying you've therefore got a license to throw down without regard for others, but that you can let others know through your actions that your trajectory may vary from theirs quite radically.
Throw your tricks downwind, so when you stuff it you wont get dragged through the other riders having a great time doing their thing.
yeh tricks downwind makes much more sense, not sure the thinking behind having crew push the limits with kites floating through the general mob...
But life has too many rules a regs already, take a chill pill and enjooooooy getting out there, who cares if you have to be careful pulling of the latest crazy wank move... enjoy man.
What's the beach got to do with it? You launch and land from the beach. You kite on the water.
The sea is big. Find a bit of sea with no people in the way and go nuts. Do any trick you want.
Gorgo, if he does his tricks too far out where there are no people, no one will see him do the trick! Dah!
If you are proficient enough to ride upwind and throw down some tricks than you can go wherever you want. Upwind, downwind, out a ways. Just go where there is some room.
simple solution ............kite at Hampton
1) its only 2min away ( you could easily walk )
2) when there are 20 out at brighton there may be 1 or 2 at Hampton
3) the beaches face almost the same directions (northerly not so good hampton )
4) hampton has flat water near the sea wall
The only reason to kite at Brighton is that ther are 20 other kiters and it is dubbed "kite beach"
or kite at Ricketts on these days ......plenty of flat water, cleaner wind ( there is a reason all the poleys are there ), waves on the bombies. .............................just be careful of the rocks.....its not for beginners
Can't believe that no one has come up with this solution
As posted by some bright spark last year some time....all you need to do is blow a whistle when you are about to pull some wicked trick or change direction. This will not only alert other kiters to give you room but also attract attention from nearby beach goers of your immense talent.![]()
"Errrm. Yes I did. No I don't. You want a special rule so that everybody gets out of your bit of beach so you can do a trick.
I reckon the sea is big and there's heaps of room to do all the tricks you want ... out in the sea away from everybody else. It works for me and everybody else on the water.
I get a little bit frustrated when somebody stops me bashing a wave on the inside, but I have no right to bash waves on the inside. I just go out and come back when the break is empty or ride up the coast to where the really good waves are and I can have them all to myself.
I deliberately avoid St Kilda and Brighton because there are too many people with bad attitudes riding there." -gorgo
I don't even want a special rule. I've been kiting there and have become frustrated that everyone wants to ride up the the top. If you're not looking for waves, not trying a trick and think you can keep your kite in the air and cruise around for a good few hours. Why not move down wind a little? It'll free up that stretch of water. You'll still get to enjoy your kite but you'll be a bit more down wind.
I'm not really looking to try and 'segregate the beach' people!!! Just wanted to share my opinion and possibly same opinion of many other riders out there that are looking to really progress their riding...
Hey big eezeeee, I sypathise the problem is all the lawn mowers are riding up to the top ( upwind ) because they see everyone else doing it and think thats where they should turn.
It happens at most beaches where there are a lot of kiters, even the pond at St Kilda which is supposed to be a designated advanced area gets plenty of lawn mowers and noobs who stand with their kites at 12 .......the noob reaction is " there are kiters out, that looks like the spot...... I'll kite there "
Im afraid the solution is to either a) find a few secret spots
b) kite where no one else wants to..ie Ricketts
c) shout and scream abuse at the perpetrator(s)
Weekends are easy you just have to drive a bit, but within 1-1.5hours drive in almost any wind direction you can find either perfect flat water or waves ( what ever your preference ) and not another kiter in sight.
After work sessions ........ find a secret spot, put up with the reef or tolerate the noobs.
Do you want flat water ? or a few peaky bay waves ?
