Hey Jeff,
Send it through to my email address. Just click on my name and forward your email to my address. Cool! Im going to see the Imax Shar kee movie tonight. I may never return to the water again!![]()
Golf is a bloody dangerous sport, you should see the death rate! only coming second to lawn bowls where they peak out all over the show. I hear Housie can be rough too.....
well actually, if you're fetching your ball in the lake you have a pretty high chance of getting attacked in some golfcourse north of the GC....... (flooding -->little shark --> big shark) ![]()
Haha, who told you that? Flooding would be freshwater and sharks need saltwater. Did a shark really end up in a golf course pond though?

Nahh really!! what nutball! Shar kees in pool and the lagoon. R u sure I reckon thats a bit of a tall story. Lagoon maybe... but seriously what a loon to do that!![]()
I know there are quite commonly freshies in the golf course ponds in parts of Queensland...and also the larger gators get in them in Florida too
Hi Uber,
I'm not so sure of stats uttered by "do-gooders" from the "friends of sharks" club. They are averages taking into account some old granny in Alice springs who's never seen the sea and not of individual risk.
I recon its more like this....
16 million Aussies of whom only 10% spend say 2hrs a year in greater than 6ft of water (assuming you only get nibbled in less than 6ft)..thats just over 3 million man hours per year in the "feeding danger zone". Say there are about 3 shark deaths per year thats 1 million man hours between meals.
Say I kite 25 weekends for 4 hrs = 100 hours in the water per year.
Probability of me becoming lunch is 100/1M = 1 in 10,000.
Add risk of trawling over a shark infested reef getting cut and bleeding, imitating a juicy seal with neoprene wrapper, doing it once per year for 10 years then I increase my personal risk factor by x100...If my name is Uber then that's another x10 factor so the probability is ummm....1 in 10!!!! Uber get out of the water!!!!!
Alan,
I like your maths, but seeing as around 70% of Aussies live within 1 hr drive of the coast, and the most common holiday destination is at the beach, I reckon you could assume numbers more like this...
0.7*18,000,000 (no. of ppl in OZ)* 1*52 (average 1hr/week per person) and then ignore the 6ft thing as most shark attacks world wide occur in water below waist deep (where do most people spend their time in the water anyway). You have a 1 in 655 Million chance of being eaten per hour spent in the water.
I reckon the chance of one of your little swimmers getting through a supposedly incivible latex cover is greater than that!
I thought I could help uber by going with him to watch the Imax movie on Sharks.....however it did nothing to quench his thirsty interest in this topic!
Maybe if we sacrifice something for the wind gods to the sharks then the wind will blow?!?!?!
Hi Brooksy,
Your probably right but Uber is a special case. I believe he has a deep psychological condition which increases his risk of attack. The constant facination with shark stories and now movies etc if this isn't stopped soon he'll be wiping himself with seal blubber and "chumming" off the back of his board to attract sharks.
I'm afraid this has gone beyond mere stats..... if anyone can help the poor lad speak up.
Aww Cmon!! Nuffin wrong with a bit of shar kee stories round the winter camp fire!!!![}:)]
OK Im doomed! that Imax drivvle was deeply disappointing! It was sharks prancing in a field of daisies, with wonderous sea turtles and puffs of jellyfish in 3D. It was more OOOHH AAAHH than EEEKK AAARGH! No Chomping or red flashes! More action on the other sea creatures like seals and manta rays than many sharks. OOhh a big Whaler shark that could suck a rhino thru a straw! Wow!![]()
However the high light was to meet another friendly kiter Caela and to share some more kiting/shark stories in the future.![]()
Quick facts on the most blood thirsty shark, 1. They don’t have white in their name 2. They can survive in fresh or salt water 3. Can hunt you down with its eyes gouged out 4. Taste blood from a couple kms away 5. Has been known to kill in 2 foot of water.
you guest it, its the Carcharhinus leucas / bull shark
It's not sharks that has Uber obsessed but the blood and gore.
sort of like sell the taste not the steak type of thing.
maybe dragging a newbie across jagged exposed reef in boardshorts will interest him as much. And that happens way more frequently.
Hey Uber,
Heres a pic I thought you might like. Unfortunately, The photographer cropped out the kiter, just inches out of frame at the top :0]
Good winds ![]()

No wind insanity has set in.....bahhhh![]()
Hey Uber, did you say milliseconds after ... so that means the guy must have be on his way down, not boosting up!
As you know I've been following this thread with great interest. I've read all there is about the Shark Pod, the guy who was eaten and why it wasn't working, and I have contacted people to to find more up-to-date info on the Shark Shield. I've also learned of a few more annecdotes from local divers who I believe swear by them. I contacted the distributor in Adelaide and thought we could try and get hold of a unit to give it a run <was thinking of throwing it into shark aquarium with a lump of seal blubber>. Well as luck had it, this weekend was the "Big Boys Toys" show at the Perth Royal Showgrounds and what do you think I came across but a dive shop selling the Freedom 4 Shark Shield. It wasn't $750, it was $625, and probably because I stood there for so long chewing the guy's ear he gave me a discount to get rid of me. I'm stoked. It was just the toy I wanted.
So I'll write a review for you as soon as we have wind again.
Can anyone tell me where I get a sack full of penguine oil or seal blubber?
Graeme
PS. If it doesn't work and I lose a leg I'll be asking for a full refund. Or I might just take up surfing instead and tie to to my remaining leg.
PSS. Ian Grose from Airbourne had his whole shop set up at the Big Boys Toys show. It was the biggest display at the show. Kites ... windsurfing ... a couple of big screen video's running with way-cool action happening. It was mesmerising. It was definitely the best action happening and the most intesting stand at the whole show. Well done Ian.
FANTASTIC IDEA !
Reckon if we all started dragging zappers round we could see the day soon when......
Mr 25ft White Pointer "Whats for dinner tonight darl ?"
Mrs 20ft White Pointer "Ive had a real tough day dear! Can you nick out & grab us a bite of fast food"
Mr.25ft White Pointer "No worries honey. I'll go get us kitesurfer again. Last time I caught one of them it was a real buzz"
Fantastic Graeme! Thats a much better price than the website. It is a shame your in Perth. I'd be there in a second lumping Blubber into the sea. You have to get some video footage of your experience with it. Try it out on some small reefy sharkees first! Lets pray it works.
I hope we get a big boys toys expo in Sydney sounds great! I watched 7's Shark Sunday last night. Mainly Mythbusters and their experiments to prove the JAWS movie myths true or false. They reckon a great white can swim up to 25mph. I guess if that is true you have to be in 30knt winds to outrun one with a kite and an average board.
BTW Kitehard started it! I was bored so I did a little PS work on it to make it more interesting. It could of been milliseconds after? Maybe he was on his way down from a jump? (Kurt I hope you dont mind me using ur cool shot PM me if you want it removed)
If your happy with the Shield I'll get 1 for sure! Cheers and keep me posted![]()
Another Close call in Seth Ifrika!!!
Bored again!!!![]()

You have to upload it to a website first. I dont think you can do it straight from your PC for ppl to view. Its a little hard cos ur PC needs to be on all the time. Have you got the original website you got the vid from? you can copy that address to the forum page. Hope that helps a little
Is it a shar kee link?![]()
hey
thanks
but i wouldnt have a clue what website its from
its not a sharkee one its a whalee one and its sooooooooo cool
so how else can i post it?? is there someone i can email it to and they can post it for me??
can I suggest gls that you go to Albany, or Cactus or Port Lincoln to try this out.
I dont really want anyone to actively attract sharks in order to find out if the zapper actually works ... not anywhere near where I sail anyway.
What Lack of Wind, its blowing 20-25 right now at Kurnell and tomorrow morning looks to be even better with SW cross at Longreef!
Get in the water Uber and give them fishies something to chase.![]()
