Any chance of someone providing a summary?
RSC: The name of the beach that this thread was about is Brighton not Briton. If in doubt you can check the top of the page before posting.
That is all.

you were amusing for a while rsc, but you’re just a bully… you don’t want real dialogue.
You want to inflame, intimidate, play victim, drag everyone into your research basement for a bit of mind-f*cking, suck up to the administrator to keep your arena open, and fail to demonstrate any of the positive communication skills you promote
yawn
"You got to be able to put your hand in the air and acknowledge your capacity for violence."
"Anybody know that name, Ammon Hennacy?"
RSC, you are my hero!!!!!
Do you give private lessons?
I pride myself on being independent and the master of my own thoughts but I must admit that if I was getting continuously abused and red thumb for my views in a public forum, I would probably retrieve in my hole for a little while and have a little think about why everyone else think diferently (the sheep syndrom).
Not you, my man, you are strong, commited, assertive and simply amazing.
!!!!!!URGENT UPDATE!!!!!!!!

You guys are funny. I wouldn't waste my time reading from home, but luckily my boss doesn't seem to mind...
Anyways, just to remind you there are 2 conversations within this thread.
There is the rsc soap-opera.
Then there is the original post, which was not settled even before you shifted from the agreed upon problem (need policing, etc.) to rsc. You guys all seem to agree that there are plenty of those dangerous types. It's one day, another one the next day. One quotes six (!) on a given day. My personal experience is between 1 and 6 indeed...
Many blame beginners, others blame experienced kiters (around page 2) who want to show off or compensate or something... Some believe in policing, others think the idiots will learn eventually. Yeah, right.
Good summary so far?
Anyhow, thanks for the entertainment so far - don't lock this thread Laurie.
to quote Stafford Beer...
"If I may be allowed one joke in a dignified discourse, it concerns three men who are about to be executed. The prison governor calls them to his office, and explains that each will be granted a last request. The first one confesses that he has led a sinful life, and would like to see a priest. The governor says he thinks he can arrange that. And the second man? The second man explains that he is a professor of cybernetics. His last request is to deliver a final and definitive answer to the question: what is cybernetics? The governor accedes to this request also.
And the third man? Well, he is a doctoral student of the professor -- his request is to be executed second."
pity ol' mate rsc doesn't have his idol's sense of humour
This thread is way too long, can someone please give me an executive summary with a few dot points and a recommendation![]()
I don't have anything to add to this thread, but i just want to be a part of it.
here is a picture of a cat dressed as a smurf
MEOW!
Like many, can't help myself - as can be seen from my number of posts, it takes a lot to drag a post out of me.
It's been an interesting read and (despite efforts to the contrary) remains on topic, only with 2 threads. On one hand we have the show ponies (not exclusive to kiting) and on the other we have out of control newcomers (again not exclusive to kiting).
While the difference between the 2 could be said to be arrogance vs ignorance, make no mistake that both reflect kiting to the rest of the world (which includes councils, rangers and insurance companies).
We are fortunate to have an unregulated sport in which to participate. There are no compulsory entry requirements (although perhaps there should be?) such as licensing or mandatory competencies which are required to be demonstrated prior to purchasing a kite.
The only group which stands to lose with increased regulation is ourselves, so trying to put the onus on lifesavers, rangers, councils etc means we are leaving our destiny to others. We do need to take collective responsiblity for our sport, otherwise it does end up in the hands of regulators. If this means approaching someone to inform them of safe kiting methods or intervening in an impending catastrophe, don't shy away from fear of retribution (either physical in case 1 or legal in case 2). If you can't (or won't) do anything, at least try to find someone on hand who is better equipped or more inclined to handle the situation.
I hope this thread continues with diminshed personal attacks or rebuttals (hey even I was tempted at times) and a renewed energy to tackling a real problem.
We (being anyone who kites - whether for the stoke, to relax, for exercise or any other reason) are all ambassadors for kiting, whether we like it or not.
Good winds and happy kiting
PS - looking forward to meeting many of the WA crew at my first Kitestock this year!
It amazes me the personality types that Kitesufing attracts.
I wonder if lawn bowls suffers the same fate?
Hey, I dig Bucky, but his influence was hardly that of a trimtab. He saw himself as something of an under-appreciated Messiah and imagined that sooner or later his visions would become widely valued and realised but that never happened and it ain't likely.
He got a few hippies and fashion-conscious corporations building geodesic domes in the 60s and 70s and has since been all but forgotten except by nerds like me. His visions were grand, some of his ideas were groundbreaking, but his influence was (sadly) negligible.
Hey russel, one of you're ex instructors here, I thought you were a ok kind of guy during you're lessons even if a little strange. But after the amount of garbage that you have spouted out in these ten pages, I have come to the conclusion that you are a complete loser and I would request that you cease all further contact with me personally.
Yours sincerely. Alex Trimtaboulie
