Kiteboarding is excellent for fitness.
There are three things that are important for fitness. 1 is duration and 2 is intensity. You do any exercise with a reasonable amount of intensity and duration and you will get fitter.
By far more important than any of those is the desire to do it. If you find kiteboarding fun you wil do it lots and you will get fitter. If you have a gym membership or run or cycle or whatever, but don't enjoy it and never do it then you will never get fit.
My prescription for being fit forever is, find two sports you really like to do, that can be done without too much drama, and can be done however the weather turns out. Mine are kiteboarding and cycling to work. Do them at a fair level of intensity 3-4 times a week. You will be fit.
This is not the same as as training for a marathon or some other relatively extreme activity. For that you need to follow the whole cardio/percentages bull****. That is fine for a short term specific goal. It's a waste of time for training for a lifetime of health and fitness.
