Apart from agreeing with Drew I noticed that karma took it's tribute today when the main offender tangled his kite in another and came down pretty hard in the shallow area at the pond ![]()
^^^^^^^ so true! It happens every day. Remember the guy that cut that guys lines about 3 yrs ago, where has he gone??? We need him back! Oh, that's right, he left, like 97% of the other locals because they were over all the bullship! And didn't want to turn a "fun" kite session into an agro fight fest!!! But when I think about it, maybe the locals are to blame for not actually physically putting to an end. In the past I have felt like buying an old pig of a kite and just plowing straight through the "short trackers" unhooking, and walking away[}:)], but the idea of an innocent kiter/by stander getting caught up in that mess has prevented me.
i might possibly have a kite for this, just need to suss a ****ty bar that we don't mind ditching :D
Sounds like my agro is being missed at the pond, might have to come make a visit on a weekend and ride around screaming my lungs out at everything that moves and crashing my kite all over the joint just to piss people off again
It's days like this that i miss Kiteboy.
Totally agree with post. Think it was same douche that was practically riding up my arse few days back. Add to the mix some windsurfers who like to throw there epiletic fit to fast plant move right against the island...or do a speed run 5m downwind of everyone riding flatest water etc etc. I cant be bothered. Thankfully there are times of the day that the masses leave and its usually just afew of Jasons guys and himself enjoying the peace. Otherwise I go elsewhere and when the winter storms come through its paradise.
I think kiting is going to loose all its friendliness good vibes that come with a relatively new sport. The undies on the outside snotty pimply gansta kids from overseas and home sure dont look like keeping the good feelings going amoungst kiters.
I figure go postal or go elsewhere. Bad attitude i know but i kite for fun and some of these people will not respond well to a freindly wake up call and ive heard first hand ruski fellas threatening local ranger so whats the point.
Well it seems like our Short Tacking friend is now famous at the Pond. Everyone knows who he is and there have been new tactics discussed. For example every time he short tacks, crashes and loses his board. A helping hand escorts his board to the other side of the pond!
It's getting better!
Today the french vegas crew got assistance from a bunch of blindfolded LF-riders.
Good thing they spent most of the day practicing board off's in the ankle deep water trying to impress a girl...
the infamous short tack, practiced by a few that have zero manners or respect for anyone. anyone who does not get it has obviously never been on the receiving end of a short tack, cut off or tail gater.
this tactic usually effects a whole bunch of riders not just the next rider in line ending in a stack up in the circuit and traffic jam for a short period :(
maybe bringing back the biff is the only answer after a quiet word does not get the rider back to respecting the spot and other riders.
I have been reading this thread for a while but had decided not to post until I was down there yesterday and the obvious offender was doing it all day long. Is it not time a few people got together and approached these guys about it? Not advocating violence but just to explain to them that this isn't on? Please correct me if this idea has already been tried or I am just being naive.
i was trying to spot out who this guy is on Monday but the whole bloody pond was a riot and everyone was just tacking around doing what ever they wanted. short tacks, turning around without looking, turning before you and sneaking in then riding super slow so you can't do anything etc. That spot is not fun anymore at all.
Cheers Number.
In which case then suggestions are needed for a way forward as there is no point in letting a few ruin it for all.
Thoughts?
G O L D and why not. If you are going to behave in an anti social manner that is dangerous to others then you deserve to be outed!
I think this thread sums up why i've always been too afraid to kite at the pond. Scared i'll get in someone's way who is pulling bigger tricks. Makes it tough for people who are trying to improve on their tricks not having limited opportunity to try the flat stuff.
I consider myself a local (from Perth not Rockingham / Safety Bay) but in 4 years of kiting i still havent gone out here ![]()
Well seems like a pretty good non confrontational way of doing it! If anyone can supply the photos I am happy to do the printing!
Imagine if 2 french surfers spent all summer dropping in on locals at trigg point????? that's right, it wouldn't happen all summer, they'd be punched out after the second drop in.
You blokes need to grow some balls and sort it out. Not sure if you realise, but these french blokes aren't on Seabreeze, and wouldn't care if they were.
They are getting away with it because you blokes are letting them, you blokes need to manage your local spot, there need to be some rules that are enforced in a way these fellas will understand.
For F sake, taking their photo and pin it up??? what kind of solution is that, are you serious!
what you blokes also don't realise yet, is that these french blokes will go home at the end of the season and tell their mates how they raped your local spot and you guys did F all about it and they pretty much did what they liked.
Next season, 8 more french short-tackers, the following season 30 more will show up. why wouldn't they all come? wind every day, butter smooth water and a bunch of pussies tip toeing around them. watch it happen.
I myself don't get very annoyed by someone short tacking, I get more annoyed if someone crosses through traffic and keeps me from doing my jump.
