Abit of Australian hospitality,
Met this German tourist down at Brighton, good bloke very friendly and good kiter too. ![]()
My mate invited him for the week end at wedge Island, scored perfect conditions and massive downwinders(I thing he was stoked). ![]()
Another mate was heading down south to walpole for a few days and invited our new German mate, greatkiting again (I think he was stoked). ![]()
He decided to check Margs on his way back up to Perth, scored big margs main break and scared the hell out of him (I think he was stoked). ![]()
Back in Perth, we went kiting again down brighton (I think he was stoked). ![]()
Decided to head to Lancelin, he new of the tense situation with some windsurfers so made sure to rig away from the grass and made a point to not steal any waves.
Came back to his rental car in the carpark to find out that some low life scum had keyed the panels the full length of the car on both side![]()
![]()
![]()
Since it was a cheap rental deal, he is not covered and has to spend $1500 at the local panel beater before he can hand the car back.
I am affraid that all the good Karma we would have built by sharing our magical backyard could have benn wasted by some exessive localism ![]()
Very, very, very sad, oh and if I ever catch someone keying my car, there will be a shallow grave on the beach. ![]()
That sucks to hear, we didn't have any problems last weekend but we were also parked down on the beach.
localism sucks....i am sick of hearing stories like this
2 things-
if you aren't local ask
if you are local communicate
then we can all get along.
I think we all suspect who it was, the big question is how long will people wait before they complain to the council and ensure that Werner loses his license. It seems its the only way he will learn.
Because it was very obviously scratched (to the metal in some places) the German kiter noticed it and reported it straight away at the cop shop.
It happened during the week. He was the only kitesurfer out with 3 other windsurfers and he said it was pretty quiet, plenty of space and did his own thing away from them.
The police told him that they had never had anything like this before.
The well travelled German kiter (previously a windsurfer but found it cost prohibitive for him to travel with all the necessary gear) thought he was just unlucky and that it could have happened anywhere in the world.
We explained about localism at Lano and that carpark was probably the worse place to park your car if you are a lone kiter. For a few days he thought we were joking - maybe because he was previously an experienced windsurfer and identifies with both sports.
blah, blah, blah. Look, i've kited lano regularly for a few years now, never once have i had a problem with the mighty german and his peanut gallery
. You don't have to go near them "on land", as for out on the ocean, do the right thing and chill out when someone makes a mistake, if a poley starts snakeing you, do the same back, they hate it far more than us because of there slug like mobility
.
I was up there last weekend and i think there's a bigger problem looming, blow in euro kiters !!!!!!!!!
If your german friend is a great guy, perhap's someone should of told him not park there.
What happened to this guys car is well out of order and i'm sure it will add more fuel to the fire, Herman and his hermits are running scared at the mo but proof is what is needed. The local police we're even asking for kite lessons, the circle of life will win !![]()

Mate^^^^^,
I never pointed the finger at anyone as I certainly wasn't there to see who comited the act.
Does that make it an acceptable act? He should park somewhere else
,you reckon?
Oh, sorry I forget, he is a Euro Tourist.Well so was your dad and I sincerely hope that he got a better reception when he arived on our shores![]()
The whole Euro thing is an absolute disgrace, imagine if you were single out as an aussie every time you go skiing somewhere and the local trashed your car.Would you enjoy that?
Us kiters are actually a very small community so if you can't share the good vibe and maybe help the tourist gain some local knowledge and avoid trouble, you should change sport and go for something where you can chanel your agro better.
Unfortunately, you are not alone either based on the green thumbs so good luck to yous all and enjoy your next trip to Bali.![]()
water skiing areas use to have signs at every boat ramp explaining the rules of the spot, this will stop alot of agro between all water users! WAKSA should be shorting this with the local councils.
Well our German friend has had a great time, met a bunch of friendly kiters, had a great trip to wedge and walpole and margs and wedge again soon no doubt... so it sucks he got his car key'd, but overall i reakon he'll go home with a smile on his dial despite this. And its at least partly thanks to us, the friendly kite community in WA, so thanks guys, keep up the good work ![]()
true blue english ray, but no blow-in, no forum junkie either, i just try to do my bit and give an opinion, if that upsets someone or body i'm big enough to say sorry !!!
whoops, sorry, i think !!!!!!!!!! oh s#it, where's that real world again.
So which of these blow in teuro's are you referring to?? cos if it was my spanish mates, i'd like to know. These guys are some of the nicest guys i have met. And i will continue to show them the beautiful spots around perth.
Lancelin needs new slogan
lano the place is a REAL HOT SPOT.................................................
Lano the place is.............
Each time I'm reading a topic about Lancelin my blood starts to boiling.
I told my self 10 times to just don't read the sad stories about Lancelin but I'm always curious to see how one person is able to torture all of us mentally and physically
I wish him a hard & painful cancer but not death as he have all the rights to have a long life (with cancer).
AMEN
This is a really sad issue to read. I couldnt imagine having one person dishing out so much greif to a comunity. Maby he is frustrated because he is just so slow and cant work out how to kite. Try offering him lessons for free and he might turn into a nice guy. Or you could always send him to Queensland to see how far his tantrums get him over here.
Yep,
I vote Lano for nest Kitestock. It would be hilarious to see Werners face when 200+ kiters show up for a weekend. Can we put the main tents etc on the grass area please? ![]()
He's a frustrated old poley stuck in a time warp of the 80's when windsurfing was big and even considered cool. We should "pity the fool" to borrow a quote from BA Baracus of A-Team.
Take comfort in the fact that he's old and can't do it forever. [}:)] And Lano will become the Epicenter of kiting in WA. The Government even built a shiny new road up there so downwinders to Wedge are possible with a 2 wheel drive ![]()
If Werner did key the car, he should be brought to justice. That's just wrong and cowardly.
KH
I think a bit of a long bow has been drawn here>>>
I doubt the original post was intended to incite anti werner sentiment.........
I have been Kiting in Lano a few times this summer, been blown downwind past the poleys park, walked back upwind in front of the park and even had someone who was assisting me land my kite in front of the surf lifesaving tower on the grass. Not one word was said to me..............
Im heading back up to Lano this weekend, i wouldn't be if it was as bad as some of you make out!!!!
sounds like a witch hunt
no proof
no one saw the person doing it
good idea for kitestock at lano though ![]()
kitestock @ lano would be the best retaliation, and the local panel beater would love it !how come no-one has taken this nazi out yet ,bring in the Americans to get rid of this dick-tator
Since nobody saw Werner do anything I don't think anyone should be talking about bringing him to task on this. It seems that there generally is an excessive amount of dickhead behaviour that occurs in WA beach carparks from Woodies to Scarbs to Lano.
I have only been there once, was blown downwind past the club, had a guy in a tinny rescue me because I was being blown crosshore in a fading breeze. I even went up to the park and used the shower afterwards with no troubles!
Maybe a local kitesurf club could be set up with similar facilities and if the application is denied you could say that you aren't being granted equitable treatment.
Why do most of these issues seem to happen in WA? I have never heard of dramas in say, Queensland. (On SB anyway) NSW and VIC have a few dramas (mostly related to people riding in officially banned areas where common sense clearly prevails ie. riding Bondi or landing outside the St Kilda seabaths), but WA, despite its abundance of space, low population, masses of kiteable coast and perhaps the worlds most reliable seabreezes seems to have a disproportionate amount of problems.
This is a shame, because every time I have been over there, I have a spectacular time, see some amazing scenery and run into as friendly a bunch of crew as you hope to find anywhere (was down at Margs over New Years, riding out of Augusta, top bunch of people)
The only thing I found lancelin was good for was fuel, pizza and to put air back into the tyres ( of and the awesome dune driving ) As a kiting spot o found it to be quite average that being said that werner guy is a cock..... Perhaps a handfull of old praws could be thrown into his van each time anyone visits then again The guy is an out and out bully and would probably only respond to being physically threatened. I know this is not in most kiters nature
but surely if a few blokes bailed him up one night while he is packing up.... No violence required just a bit of intimidation........ Oh and remember to mention the war ![]()
The local police we're even asking for kite lessons, the circle of life will win
Yep, gave them a hand yesterday and a few tips. The coppers are new to town and keen as mustard to get into it, good blokes too. I'm looking forward to seeing how our german friend and the shire rangers will approach them if they dare to enter the windsurfing domain!
