Okay knowledged dudes out there. Self diagnosed myself ( seeing a podiatrist on Monday), think I have the above conditions, although I feel it may be moving towards tendonisis as it has become chronic.
The tendon is inflamed, (have had problems for years) and with all the icing, anti inflammations, jim kids orthotics in shoe, after two weeks hasn't settled down like it normally does. Spent most of this time of it due to an intercostal strain to.
Quite flat footed, I think the collapse of my arch is putting pressure on my tassel tunnel, pinching my lateral Plantae nerve, which in turn is effecting the Sural nerve on the outside of foot. I know this as after the initial ins and needles what has been left is numbing down the outside of the foot all the way up to the little toe. If I press on the where the tassel tunnel is ( on inside of left ankle) it sends a little pain up the left side to the little toe.
Basically I'm afraid after all these years tendonisis or degradation of the posterior tibial tendon is now in place.
Normally my routines which are quite thorough drop the inflammation but no improvement!
Any advice guys, especially what I can do in the next few days to get the damn inflammation down.
I will do just about anything.
Help!
I think you have the internet equivalent of verbal diarrhoea and my advice is to unplug the laptop from the wall and within a couple of hours the battery will have died and you'll be on your way to a full recovery.
Nah man it is a serious injury man I really do need advice slack. Any physio, podiatrists out there?
I have similar. Apart from surgery there was no cure. i have found the best relief is hot/cold therapy. Footbath etc. i have a TENS machine that helps as well as taking fish oil, multivitamins, and magnesium. If you have footstraps they are going to add to your pain.
The following is similar to the info I was given from 2 doctors. plantar fibromatosis is know as Ledderhose's disease.
In this condition, the plantar fascia (a layer of firm fibers under the skin in the bottom of the foot) forms hard, irregular lumps that can be very painful. They are not cancerous.
The exact cause of plantar fibromatosis is unknown, but people with this disorder can have a similar problem in the palm of the hand called palmar fibromatosis, or Dupuytren's contracture. Some people develop this because of a genetic predisposition. In others, it may be secondary to plantar fasciitis (inflammation of the plantar fascia), small tears in the plantar fascia with exaggerated scarring as the fascia heals, or a response to repetitive trauma to the bottom of the foot.
**edit. Sorry eppo. I just reread your post and sounds like I'm more affected under the arch than you. Disregard! **
That's sucks Eppo...
As I'm sure you know it's an overuse injury... You are going to get told to stop kiting and do stretching blah blah, but basically stop irritating it. Classic causes are "walking or running (especially uphill, on uneven surfaces or in poor footwear), jumping, hopping or change of direction activities. "
So you only mow the grass on flat water. No transitions, jumping or hopping!
Good luck, but I reckon that is what the Physio or podiatrist will tell you....
Cheers
Are you riding a strapless surfboard? U probably need to strap your arches when kiting. Try pod, physio and some dry needling/ acupuncture. If not you might need a cortisone or PRP injection. Is most of your pain on the inside or outside of foot?
Hey eppo,
What really worked well for me with my last case of tendonitis is a natural ingredient called bromelain. It's derived from pineapples but u can get it from any health store. It is meant to help with the repair of tears, It's naturally anti inflammatory and pain relieving, and as a result will speed up the healing of the muscle tissue as it gets reduces the inflammation quicker than without.
A similar natural agent is turmeric if ur into that sort I stuff. It worked for me is all I can say. I had tendonitis in the shoulder and took 2 months to feel improvement, and with my latest injury I felt improvement after 5 days. Fish oil is good as a preventative treatment but works slow an will not relieve your pain straight away.
Hope this may work for ya too, but most likely they will tell you to rest and do some stretches etc. good luck!!
Hope ur back out soon ![]()

Hey hasn't even arrived yet and you are jumping in me grave,l steady on ugly.
Hey who said I was stopping kiting anyhow!
Will be managed pain for the next few months!
Maybe I should just take up drinking again, that seems to solve most immediate problems. Lol.
Mate just thought i could save you the storage issue [ hiding from the wife]
just in case it comes to amputation above the knee.
Got to love an unused toy.
Eppo, apparently there is a close link between your injury and too much "quiet time" at home by yourself watching adult entertainment. Must be all those holidays you get. Just think, if you had an office job doing 12 hours a day you wouldn't have to worry about this issue as you wouldn't have time tondo anything else.
Maybe you are right man, bloody hard work trying to hide the iTunes electronic receipts I can tell you! Heard your collection isn't to bad, not long to go buddy and you to will have ankle Tendonitis. Lol
Don't know what you are talking about exactly but I find these things help.
1. MSM - an acronym for a type of sulphur, amazing stuff but it taste like sh!t. Look it up, better than any fish oil or stuff ( quickest acting but offers other attributes)
2. Velbex 17 - a WA guy developed it, its all natural rub that gets you up and running pronto.
Change your mindset, your brain is a powerful thing, have you ever noticed you feel better before you go to the doc and feel crap when your moms about or you talk about it.
Cheers
Rich
Hey mate, I am a sports physio. If it is tendinopathy of the tib post, or plantar fasciitis, then orthotics from the podiatrist will help to start with. Have you tried taping your foot for kiting? Taping the arch of your foot is a good functional test to see if it will benefit from the mechanical support of an orthotic, your pod should do this.
There is no cure as such (or magic potion!), tendons are prone to overload when activity levels change, often it comes on several weeks after getting back into activity after a break. The best management is strengthening of your foot (arch) and calf muscles, and correction of any dysfunction further up the chain, like hip and glute strength. If it is tendinopathy, it will often feel worst the next morning after kiting.
Very manageable condition. Slight pain up to 3/10 is okay - wont cause any damage. Doing no activity is actually worse for it.
Good luck
Shot in the dark from your description but maybe
Plantar Facisitits/ flattening of the foot - Take 50 mg Oral Diclofenac three times a day with food/ make sure no history of asthma aggravated by NSAID. also ice the injury and take it easy for a few days.
Also - figure 8 tape the foot to pull the fore foot back to the heal to support the arch.
Then orthotics to suport the arch.
It is often caused by a new motion of the foot e.g. running on sand/uneven surfaces.
Tibialis anterior- the anti inflames/ ice and gentle stretching should do the trick with rest.
Unless yo have started some vigorous exercise regime then hope its not faciiitis .
shot in the dark
or wearing thongs when coming into summer which dont provide much support.
Thanks for that fellas, yeh taping to see what happens when my arch is supported is a good idea. I do find when I wear my ankle brace, the inflammation is less prone to happen as much. Dichlorfenac you say...okay.
Will look on the net to how to tape as you have described. Thing is it doesn't hurt when I kite ( I wear the ankle brace), it is after. Infact just walking on ground seems to aggravate it more!
I missed my pod appointment would you believe, was putting new straps and pads on my mako king and the time elapsed, how ironic is that! Got another booked in on the 9th of jan.
Yeh it is an injury I need to manage until the season ends. Thanks again.
