That's exactly the problem I had after the Ledge to Lancelin. This is a massive windsurfing-only event, afterwards about a dozen of us went out for a bit of wave action right in front of the finishing point.
And there was one tool on a kite who kept gybing in front of me after I'd ridden the swell in from way out the back, getting just upwind of me, then getting aggro when I didn't immediately give him 'his' wave. It wasn't worth the effort of having a collision, or fisticuffs in the carpark, but it did put a dampener on what should have been a wonderful day 
Thats where you need the old throw away kite nebbian just make sure you quick release works and ride without a leash eh slave
^ TH if I'm not mistaken Nebbian meant that he was out on his windsurfer when he was being snaked by an inconsiderate kiter (although I believe he may be beginning to see the light 
and be dabbling in kite flying at times?).
As a kiter and a long time surfer (that windsurfed for a while back in the eighties) it embarrasses me at times seeing the way some kiters behave in the waves.
Yes we can normally point higher and gybe easier, but if someone on a windsurfer has riddden a swell in from way out the back FFS just let him have it and take the next one I reckon.
@Nebbian although there is a lot of kiters venturing into waves that have no real idea of what wave etiquette is all about just remember we are not all like that and it frustrates some of us kiters as well.
Hey I'm all for closest to the peak gets the wave but not if snaking is involved.

Generally speaking, I'd say if you follow the surfers "tribal rules" it's hard to go wrong !!
If it's right hander then closest to the peak gets right of way, as the other guys is technically dropping in.
my suggestion for any kiteboarders/ kitesurfers venturing out into the waves for the first time should forget about it... before you do grab a surfboard, go out to the best surf spot in your local area when its pumping with the biggest crowd , and see how it all works... . you must experience it first hand and see what the consequences are for fcking up...you will learn the right way and fast..
Green boardie guy keeps his kite low and holds his line.
Upwind guy cranks a bottom turn and boosts off the back heading downwind, kite high over the green boardshort guy and they both continue on their run.

The green boardies guy, he's on the wave first, he knows were the wave is going to break and he is setting himself up for a tube or coverup or nice bit of a steep section and upwind dweeb on a TT comes and stuffs up the wave by turning into it causing the wall to crumble prematurely in front of the green boardies dude.
That's exact what happened to me at Scarbs yesterday, I put it down to the upwind dimwit not knowing how to read the surf and giving a sh!t about anybody else.

Sorry like longboarders just sitting further out the back and expecting all the waves because they paddled from further out. Not on my break.
Nah but if you on a point break and there are 10 guys all hussling for 4 sets then what?
Do the guys taking out really far get priority or guys on inside waiting for the set?
If the wave is about to break in between the two guys, the left handers wave is going to end shortly with the wave closing out and the wind causing the section behind him to most probably start to break - best case for him to do a floater or similar or even better pull off because it is the right thing to do and he would most probably snap his board doing a floater off a wave like that.
The right hander could do a nice floater or cutback into a left hand tube/ coverup and ride the wave further down the line.
A bit off topic but in WA conditions the left hander usually out runs the waves anyway!

You can't see green-boardie guy, only his strings sticking out of the curtain.
The double-up reformed and sucked inside-out.
What was once a sizey lefthander morphed into a little righthand drain-pipe.
B & W guy checks it all out from the back-stalls.
Like a greaseball getting spat out from a blocked sink....^^^
Green-boardie guy carves a nice cutty to end his ride with a flurry.
