In Sept 2013 a group of kiters will be heading from Australia to the UK to make attempts at several of the English Channel world records.

Sam Lutman-Pauc holds the current record having crossed the English Channel in 1 hour and 51 minutes and by doing so beat the previous record by 27 minutes, which was recorded by Sam Branson in July 2012.

Be sure to follow the preparations and progress of the team over the coming months

https://www.facebook.com/aussiechannelchallenge

The group are also fundraising in support various charities including Red-kite and the Cancer Council, so all support will be most welcome & appreciated.

Yes Ozone Edge 17's and Raceboards should do the trick. Good Luck with the attempt guys!

I would suggest a 17m edge is highly unlikely to be the tool for the job!!!!

English Craig what tool would you suggest? Too big? Seems ideal if the right winds suffice..

Yeh Craig spot on with kite advice, maybe get them to take a rashie aswell, no need for a wetsuit,

No criticism of the model Eppo just that anyone who has spent much time sailing kitesurfing windsurfing etc in the channel would tell u a 12 is probably a bit big even on a light day!

Uk channel either no wind and I mean super high pressure system no wind, or its 20kts plus mid channel as an absolute minimum

im sure you guys have done your homework, i used to cross the channel on a regular basis, i nearly died a while back on this stretch of water, ill try and dig up a bit of footage on a crew 2 kiters and boat back up , the conditions were crazy the back up nearly capsized a couple of times and a rnli rib isnt a boat that capsizes, as mentioned it can be glassy and totally insane id still rather hit the channel any day compared to the north sea

No that was the KITE record.

Windsurfers have done 1hr 4mins 33sec. Hmmm almost twice the speed.

Glad to help.

Have fun.

^^^^YAWN^ He is talking about the kiteing record. Your talking about a different sport??? Apples/oranges

Sounds like it should be an adventure,,,and raising money for Red Kite and the Cancer Council is a damn good cause, Hope it all goes well.

^^^ no, the original poster said "attempting to break several records" and importantly that Sam L-P was the holder of the world record.

Yes he holds the kite record but not "the" record

Maybe you need to read my post and what I was referring to a little closer before you get all excited at the chance to have a crack at me (again).

Thank you all for the postive support.

Mark is correct, and my apologies... I shpuld have been more specfic. The records are all kite related, and it certainly helps to know what the windsurf record is, gives us something to aim for. That said just over an hour, thats is really fast!! :)

Eppo and crew, there certainly will be some edges in play, but we have been warned to bring plenty small kites. Something about the very cold wind being more dense & punchy. We'll be on location for 10 days so plenty of time to work out the kinks.

Im sorry, wasnt having a crack at you, but I think we all just assumed he was talking about the kitesurfing record because its in the kite forum.
I think THE record then is held by a speed boat, like windsurfing, its a totally different sport.

Hey AECC, Im not on facebook, how else can we show our support or donate?

I must say the swimmers are incredible, really cold water & big tides, and they dont just do single but double and i think even tripple crossings!! Amazing achievements!

Thank you lotofwind, your support is greatly appreciated. For the next few weeks its all about getting the word put and creating awareness.
Good point, Will be sure to maintain updates across all media, (facebook, twitter, seabreeze, etc). The fundrasing pages will be activated later next month :)

I appreciate the apology.
Just FYI the exact same post is in the windsurfing forum, so no assumptions could be made.

The speedboat thing is just silly, it is obvious we are talking sailing records.
Somebody did it once in a bathtub with a paddle but obviously irrelevant.
If one wishes to be silly THE record is held by the space shuttle, an Apollo mission or satellite no doubt, as mach30 orbit beats all.

Maybe if you are not on FB like all the lemming losers I should be nicer to you.

Mark, here is an idea!

Why dont you join him and and you can break the record for the oldest windsurfer to cross the channel,

OR!!!!!!!!!!!!! wait 5 years and you could break two records at one!

Be the oldest windsurfer to cross, and do it in a sport that hasnt adapted to change in the last 20 years!

Boom!

Nothing wrong with abit of fun banter but hoping to keep this thread positive.

I'll mail u some details, The was a crew who specialize in kite crossings based in Kent, with big ribs as a safety boats, the wind onshore can be very light but you'll have Gale force mid channel, water temps need to be given a lot of respect ,even after a balmy summer it won't be what an Aussie is used too, ships are very prevelent as its one of the busiest supply routes in the world, sounds a great adventure if the weather is kind , wouldn't mind joining you but mauritius is on my hit list

Heres another idea - you could realise it was a lighthearted dig exactly the same as the one you started in the WS forum. Sensitive lot here.
