has anyone got or tried the new setup and does the swivel on the chickenloop stop the lines twisting as they claim
Swivel on the chicken loop is a joke, it means you can manually untwist the lines by turning the release knob.
For a swivel to work it must have less friction than the twist in the lines, it is'nt going to happen with this swivel.
My spies tell me the pro kit doesn't have a noticable effect on handling and that it is not worth doing.
My old Switchblades have the swivel on the chicken loop. I like that you can reach down and unwind the lines any time you like.
yet another " advance" promoted and tested by non-kiters....rushed to the masses.
Like computers, If they got it right years ago, they'd be outa biz....'cause no-one would have to update!
so lets sugar coat some sp!t and hopefully they won't taste it
I have used the Pro kit back to back with standard IDS lines on the new Switchblade IDS X 12m. The idea of the Pro kit is it brings the V of the front lines closer to the bar which, on the 12m makes it turn a little faster, makes it easier for school kite instructors to untangle kite lines quicker when learners invert lines and for the guys doing lots of loops and stuff to manually spin there front lines. I hope this helps Lethal.

Its not neccessarily designed to be better but an alternative setup to the standard IDS,some people preferred the bar and loop set up prior IDS so this kit gives you both IDS(not quite as easy to reach but still there) and the benefits of switchblade 3 set up.some may feel it turns quicker, but there are a few variables that may play a part in that, personally i def prefer the centre lines coming all the way down and the swivel on the loop so i can easily untwist the lines rather than always looping my kite to untwist them, because in the surf i tend to loop one way depending on direction im surfing.
Does anyone know if this 'pro kit' comes standard with kite or is it an added extra? If so how much does it cost?
Also can it be adapted to 2009 IDS bar?
Web searches so far seem to be coming up with nothing except Cabrinha site.
regardless of whether any swivels work all the time or not, i think "within reach" is the most critical thing about a swivel..
the bar I've been using has a swivel which works about 20% of the time, and i can certainly live it not working - that's not a problem really as it can be quickly adjusted by hand to undo the line wrap.. My real issue with it is that it is so far down the lines and well out of reach, that i have to completely stop, pull in the front lines down to where my hands can reach it before i can turn it (hence dragging the leading edge of the kite down too), then suddenly releasing it back up into the air - all in a truly remarkably unsafe manner..
so having a swivel located close to you, whether it works or it doesn't, is definitely a great big bonus in my book, so i wouldn't knock that setup at all from the sounds of it..
it doesn't sound like it actually works, but it doesn't work in a very good way!
The pro-kit comes with a single line extension to match the existing line extension.
There's nothing to stop you upgrading the 09 system to the 2010 system. All the relevant parts are available as spares and you can make all the various line extensions with high quality line from a yachting shop.
If you can't do that then you probably should not be thinking about ditching the stock IDS safety.
BTW All I know about the pro-kit is from watching the vid and talking to people who have used it. I wouldn't pay much attention to me if I were you. You need to look at the system and make up your own mind. See above.
Cheers for the info. I will have a chat to SHQ or Kitepower and find out.
From what I can see on the video I think the set up will be better for me (opinions will obviously differ) and I like the idea.
some questions for those of you fortunate enough to have the switchy idsx. the kites look awesome for what i do but the bar and line setup seems a schmozzle.
so the "pro kit" basically reverts the bar and lines to something like the sb3 bar?
i ride sb3s and they have so much depower on the chicken loop i don't know why you'd need more. is ids just a crock?
could you use an idsx switchy on an sb3 bar (mine are both still in great condition)?
Another thread with people who have some real knowledge, getting red thumbed... LOL.
What do you red thumbers want? All positive brand pimping? You might as well just stick to reading the company's press releases.
pro kit would be so much easier to use than standed IDS which is why i didn't buy them in the first place.
self landing has just been made a whole lot easier due to pro kit aswell.
9/10 for the kit![]()

so if you cannot either do another rotation in the opposite direction on the same tack or reverse your tack and do the rotation.(kook) then you need the pro kit. Kook Kit.
Anyone got a pic of this Kook Kit ? Self landing the IDS is a pain, not being able to pull on the front line .
The swivel is not the issue, anything that gets rid of the Incredibly Dumb System though has to be an improvement.
Getting rid of the IDS was the first job when the 2009 SB IDS turned up, the pro kit does it for you for 2010 but with a $90 premium. Spend the money if you want to or just take the IDS off and treat it like the 2008 SBs.
My opinion only, take it or leave it......
IDS, is a very good system, i know when i was self landing my SB3 it was a job and a half in over 25 knots. Under 20 knots it wasn't a problem. I have used my IDS in 35 + knots and it worked perfectly and also when a large piece of seaweed got tangled in my lines and started to make my kite loop uncontrolably. I find that it only takes me about a minutes to reset the IDS after i have deployed it.
I liked the Pro kit aswell and will probably fit it to my 12m when it arrives. But i will leave my smaller (7&9m) kites with the standard IDS bar.
As Daisy said, this is just my opinion. Like anything, i believe you should try it and make your own decision.
