So don't buy the pro kit.
Keep in mind I have only explained how I set up my kite. It works for me as my many missed handle passes are no big deal, the kite flys gently to the edge of the window ready for re-launch. It also eliminates the possibility of the kite rolling and tangling the bridles.
Has anyone devised a system on the ids that actually allows the lines to untwist unassisted? The swivel on the chicken loop is a manual only untwist.
I have seen the pro kit and think it looks pretty good, but not sure its worth shelling out more money for slightly faster turning. I was just wondering why you think IDS is dumb and complicated thats all?
I actually like the pro kit but it doesn't seem to effect turning on the SB as far as I can tell. That may be different for the Nomad.
The downside of the IDS was the increased wear when the lines twist, I had my first IDS line part 3 weeks after I got it on the 2009 SB.
For me personally, removing the IDS and riding suicide cleans up the bar, removes what I found was a weak point and if I still need to I can reach above the bar and grab the front lines to completely flag the kite.
The pro kit is simply a more refined version of what I was doing anyway. Lots of money though I reckon for a new chicken loop and a bit of line
Riding suicide on a bar with such a massive throw is still a very soft option compared to kites of old but it helps explain the set up!
Thanks for the reply Daisy. I had SB09's and fortunately never completely wore through any Ids lines, even though I was given spares and I kite everyday theres good wind. I now mainly use Nomads and that is the kites I am considering for the pro kits, so would be keen to know if it has much effect on performance. The mrs has the SB's still which I use sometimes for flat water, so they will stay IDS.
just watched the cab pro kit installation vid. basically looks like you can just run the new kites on an sb3 bar and just grab the centrelines above the bar and the ids bridle still functions. you could easily put stainless rings on the centre lines at the triangle and leash to them for self-landing if you're uncomfortable pulling one front line as you drop the kite down the side of the window.
manual below bar unspin is good. i am not a kook just cos i don't want to have to loop my kite exactly the same number of times each way each session.
if cab sold the new switchies without the bar and for $500 less i might buy one. as it is, i'll squeeze another season out of the sb3s.
ids pro kit = pay more just to get back the features that ids removed from the 2008 bar. perhaps you'll save your $80 back through reduced line wear???
i reckon it should be a cost-free option at point of sale: ids or pro kit for the base price then pay extra only if you want both.
