Ok, firstly i'm all for kitelife and getting kiting more exposure. But FFS watching this show is boring me to death. Who is KiteLife actually targeting? for an experienced or even high beginner kiter it is very dull. There is a lot of promo and "jibber jabber" none of which is relevant to any kiteboarder already doing the sport. And for someone new to the sport all that needs to be mentioned is "take a lesson" and in that simple request they would of covered everything mentioned in the last 3 episodes and if trends persist will cover the entire series.
This weeks "trick tip" launching ur kite...............since when did this become a trick?
as i said at the start, im very much supportive of kitelife, first season was great with some real tips and reviews of gear but this season seems really weak. keen to hear other reviews i would like my comments particularly involving the target market to be taken as constructive criticism rather than trash talking what is an important step forward for australian kiteboarding.
i love that the sport is getting more attention but maybe make it a lil bit more upbeat and exciting
good show boys are having a good crack, gone from a action show to first progression video made by katani and kitelife, mayeb it just starts this way to get the plebs understanding wats doin so theyl watch the rest of the season, but they do need some more kiting and travel and trying out new toys
Total crap pushed by the industry who want to sell more gear...........we do not want to "promote" this sport. If Kitelife is paid for by my membership fees to AKSA then I will cancel my membership next year for sure.
I'd like to see a LOT more safety information, like guides for newbs who are thinking about kiting. Right of way rules, exclusion zones, how far to keep away from objects and people, proper launching safety, and the importance of this all to keep this great sport alive.
That's the main thing I'd like to see. From the one episode I saw last week there are other things I for sure would change (like the host
), but I think it's really important to inform people on how to keep safe.
We do not want to promote this sport or this country....don't y'all get it? Only gear dealers, schools and hot shots want to promote the sport...the first to sell gear, the second to make a living (sort of) and the third to show off, get ranking etc.
The growth is out of control as it is. Lessons have become a joke as they are all about getting people up on the board asap.
Fair point gruezi, i have plenty of issues at my local particularly with foreigners myself. Mostly because oh shear arrogance and disrespect to the rules mainly because the outcome of their behaviour does not effect their short lived stay. That being said once you stunt the growth of the sport and deter any tourism you will start to loose kiteboarding shops, loose local support and increase overall cost of your gear unless everyone is so kind as to destroy their old kites and buy brand new ones every year.![]()
ahhh bugger it, iv had my little ** stir
gruzei do you ever stop complaining? all of your posts are negative and annoying. less whinging more kiting. thanks
You asked for it Marg.
You have the typical profile of many of the newbie wannabies getting in to this sport and why so many of the people who positively contribute to this site have left; and these are mostley people who have been kiting 5 yrs. plus.
This is your 3'rd post and you think you know what kind of a person I am. Sometimes you run across people with double digit IQ's, but every once in a while you run in to some one with a triple digit IQ, get it moron.
You have been a little negative of lately mr Gruezi....
For all those who are complaining try constructive criticism....let the producers know what you want to see.
I have met the presenter and he is super stoked on kiteboarding as well as being a genuinely nice guy. Feedback on what you like and how to improve the show is cool but slagging it is just downright rude.
PS- it is not being paid for by aksa- I asked....
I think the shows great , it could go for longer .
then they could fit in more stuff to please everyone?
Compare last episode of kitelife and TopGear.
I don't like cars that much but the show is so entertaining that you want to see what the muppets get up to.
Kitelife needs to cater a little bit more by showing fun stuff in kiteboarding, like building slider or making kicker how to hit it. Maybe some crazy adventure stuff with trick progression, safety etc in between. Maybe also include segment of events that have happened around australia.
Yeah the show is driven by the exposure of the advertising companies but if it wasn't there would be no kitelife.
But you can be inventive when thinking of how to promote the sponsors while making the show interesting and entertaining. ![]()
First up this is constructive. Er, possibly...
I watched it last year and found that it did not represent the kiting community as I feared it wouldn't. There were plenty of interviews with spotty teenagers (ok so they are the ones pushing the sport technically) and none with the vast population of fat and balding +35 year olds.
I don't think I will get much sympathy here as most FABO's (Fat And Balding Oldies) will be either nursing their aches and pains or looking after the kids (back to spotty teenagers again).
This show, in me humble opinion, needs to represent the sport as it really is and not as the surf community would portray itself. So less interviews with Show Ponies and the Local Hero (who nobody outside of his LOCAL beach has ever heard of) and more technique / product reviews, technology development, location / holiday articles etc.
It needs to reflect the masses of kite surfing rather than the top 5% all the time. I am not suggesting that anybody wants to see my fat arse skimming across the bay but it does need to be more representative to get my attention.
And guess what? I am the one with the (old enough to have some) $$$$$ so its me you want to sell your products to guys ![]()

If you've all got foxtel, cant you just change the channel and watch some other worthless piece of crap???
Paul was on his own this year as far as I know (here in WA at least). Catch 22, we dont want to spend money but the show is "crap"(not my opinion). The guy is in his 2nd year and I think the quality of the show is as good as most kitesurfing movies, and I'd rather save my $50.00.
If this is a forum give the guy some ideas to help improve the show for next year or mabe even offer some help????
eg.Paul, next year, I'd rather see you come for kitestock rather than the core slider jam if you have to pick. I can promise you you would get some entertaining footage, probably not all kiting related.
Huge effort mate.
There is a massive diff between - "Here is rider Y from brand X to show us a bit of a trick" and "Here is rider Y from brand X with the brand new released kite W which is an awesome inovation and sure to be the most popular kite this season. He will be showing us a trick with his W kite from Brand X and.. wait have we shown the brand and mentioned it 20 times yet?"
Brand placement is a reality in all commercial shows for sure, but the level of saturation in some mags/shows not only erodes credibility but is patronising and insulting to the audience. Unless of course you love velcro shoes, drool a fair bit and swallow any cr@p presented to you? ![]()
I've noticed the youtube vids on kiting with the most hits have "deadly crash" or "massive wipeout" in the title. Similarly, in the USA, Whale Wars got its biggest audience when ships collided at speed. So to get some drama (and demonstrate some safety stuff), whip up some kook moves.
Personally I'd like to see a good tree-shredding; a jetski vs kite collision; a kiteloop-through a windsurfer's sail; and a wide selection of faceplants.
Near-beheadings of innocent bystanders would be instructive, but maybe a bit provocative. You'd have to at least say "pre-2003 kites are more deadly than this season's kites".
That's my $0.018 + GST anyways...![]()
junglist hit the nail on the head with his ideas. The show does need to be a little more exciting stuff but for the second year and with im sure a limited budget they are doing ok. Maby a few more sponsors could throw some money at it and send them off to a few overseas destinations for us to check out. I dont think you can bitch about the show as some are, at least someone is having a go at it.
Yeah I'm sure a video of kitestock would be more entertaining than a video of the slider jam
... The reason this sport has so much **** media and boring coverage is because of people that think just like that.
How could anyone in their right mind think that a dealer meeting/ testing free ride session with some boosts and other stuff in a choppy ocean with limited angles would look better than coverage of a park jam where you get to see the riders building the obstacles then riding them with some of the best "pro" kiters in the world from different angles such as a helicopter... hahaha.
p.s.
Someone should make a Magazine with just huge boosts in scenic locations, now that would be sweet!!!
You could make a tv series out of it to... Something along the lines of "Huge boosts in scenic locations, with a WIDE angle lens!" would be a good title for it. You could even do a sequel to it to, "Huge boosts in scenic locations, with a WIDE angle lens and a helmet on!"
Man there is so many possibility's with a show like that, the sky is the limit. Literally.
