12months ago I got a 20" grudig that is 12volt. It's great !
Only 2ish amps and good digital signal and has DVD built in.
I bought a 21 inch "Highlander" (unknown brand) from Ebay 12 months ago, Cant say enough good things about this TV! Inbuilt DVD and USB port which i can plug in a hard drive with many movies on it without going thru a computer and it chews up very little power. Big thumbs up.
cool, see how you said 2ish amps, i am wondering how long itwould run for if i had a 100amh battery, just a esimate
2ish amps ... divide 100 amp hour battery by the 2 ish amps... about 50 ish hours... say 40 hours to be conservative.
I dont agree with Karsten as deep cycle batteries are designed to go to almost total discharge. I have totally flattened my batteries many times and they always come back.. I mean thats what they are designed to do... unlike cranking batteries that will be screwed if discharged totally a few times....
Don't take my word for it but check it out at a Battery World place or do some more Googling ....
On a side note .. if a battery is listed as having an amp hour rating then its a deep cycle battery ... if it has a CCA rating its a starting battery as the CCA refers to cranking amps ...
N 70's are a popular size marine type batteries and are rated at 100 amp hours... I prefer gel batteries as they can be run at any angle and even upside down.. but I have wet cell maintenance free cat batteries and I am very happy with them ...
After growing up on boats I have to ask, why the hell do you want a TV on a boat??
I go on a boat, crusing, sailing whatever, to get away from things like TV!!
If you want it to just watch the news, cricket or footy, ABC radio is pretty good you know!!
If you want it to keep the kids occupied, eg a babysitter, bloody shame on you!! If you can't keep kids occupied on a boat then you quite simply are not trying!!
I grew up spending our whole summers cruising around the river and we were NEVER bored!!
Fishing, swimming, rowing, sinking the dinghy, making a mast and sail for the dinghy, playing cards, reading, walking the beach/beach combing, diving, snorkling, eating, sleeping, kayaking and doing massive bombs off the boat ;) If you can't find something to do in that lot, rain, hail or shine, well I give up!!!
Anyway, rant over!!!
i like your rant, and i dont dissagree with what you have to say, but i trup your rant with... my wife wants a tv on the boat and i want her to want to come out on the boat, so i think its a small price to pay.
The boat is where the likes of Lord of Rings and Starwars live. I love getting holed up somewhere sitting out a blow add guitar, surfboard, sup, books...sleep
I hardly watch TV at home any more as it is better to watch what I want when I want, streaming over the internet. So why have a TV on board.
As far as watching movies goes, almost any laptop will do the job for you there.
I dare to suggest that the best investment you might make for on board audio and visual entertainment is the best mobile internet receiver (ariel) and service you can find.
Are you sure she is not using the TV thing as an excuse not to go out on the water?![]()
However if it is Bell Bird and Days of Our lives she can't live without, I think you are snookered right from the start.
TV, to have or not to have
I considered going without, this would keep her in doors, indoors ha ha.
However, I installed a T V for me, Boxing Day I will be on the water and will not want to miss the Sydney to Hobart start, also being from a farming back ground I need to watch (Farmer wants a wife) just kidding lads...?
I only really got the TV for watching DVD's as I prefer a bigger screen than the Laptop.
Settle down Cisco, you tech head, I no your going to say" I could get a monitor and mount on the wall and plug into the laptop"
As for you B A, judging by a blow up of your new profile picture, you over due for a pedicure.
Sorry Cisco & B A, one to many chardi's last night and the A D D thing that the wife tells me I have must have kicked in.
Hope your guy's are all good and are having a sailing time of your life.
I have had TV on my yacht for 6 years and just updated from 19inch to 24inch flat screen LED just make sure you shop around and purchace one with a power box that steps down from 240vlt to 12vlt then its simple to run 12volt strait into ships cirrcut board rather than using a inverter.I also boast a JVC 12volt car CD player that also runs DVDs which I conect to TV which also runs surround sound as most small TV sound is crap.Being a solo sailier I have over 300 dvds onboard which I find making long passages a little shorter!
Bilge switches and gas alarm under speaker....This is my old TV it was a pc monitor with TV tuner 12 volt 19'' but now I have a grundg 24'' which is led and digital cost only $320 from harvey norman.
Any more pictures around your yacht. What you have shown so far looks beautiful and I am sure the rest of it is to the same standard.
What is the view like from the cockpit.
Southace. From your bio I presume your sailing out of Port Lincoln/Boston Bay. Sail up to the groups etc. I was born and raised in Tumby Bay. What is the yacht? Certainly looks the part.
