I, Cisco, hereby apologize for making comments on the personal situation of Alan Lucas and retract them.

Further, I retract anything I have said about him or his "NSW Cruising Guide" that is not completely true.

Signed, Cisco.

Hardly a sailor (windward side of jetty), hardly a gentleman (Criticizing other more experienced seafarers), more likely the lawyers got onto you Cisco because the way you disrespect all that confronts you, ie LMYC. you wouldn't have done it through remorse. BTW Alan Lucas has just released his 9th edition of 'Cruising the Coral Coast' with new sections on the Gulf, NT coast and Coral Sea reefs with an additional 50 pages. How much experience, knowledge and ability do you have in these areas. You are a Qld'er , where's your book?
You Cisco, after reading many of your posts, come across as self absorbed, self obsessed, self righteous, self stimulator. Get your hand off it. May all the lobster pots of the East coast of Australia snag you prop and rudder.

Gee Billyboy, you're hypercritical. Best to avoid judging others critically lest you expose yourself.

Sadly, it would appear to me that Cisco Kid isn't all that experienced or knowledgeable. After 30 plus years cruising and living permanently on my yacht I think I know a bit but not nearly as much as Alan Lucas. I find that people who are prone to criticism like the Cisco "KID" should , for once, try to be a decent human being instead of a troll just trying to pull a more experienced person down. It's been my experience that people who act like this generally feel inferior to the person they are criticising and this is the only way they can feel better about themselves. But Lucas doesn't need me or anyone else to stand up for him. His record says it all.

My 2 bobs worth.
Personally I have been observing these on going comments and find the remarks offensive to Ciscos defence.

Perhaps read the guidelines to the forum I think it states that no one should bag any other in the forum ( it' can lead to a band trust me it happen to me)

Secondly Cisco was stating his opinion which is fair enough.

3rdly I navigated the entire east coast of Oz including tassie without paper charts and relied solely on maps and map book editions plus "I paid" (iPad) and a garmin handheld plotter. I bumped the earth once in the great sandy straits and no chart or map would have avoided that!
I'm a master 5 skipper and have cruised the GBR and cape York several times and still paper charts are tucked away collecting rust!

4thly as a single hander a blow on berth is ideal and always the preference when entering a unknown marina unless its above 20 and a jetty type structure!

5thly it is quite common that us yachties are alway looking to squeeze the truth about membership, size of boat....etc to find a better deal!

Last off the only thing I have taken offence to from cisco kids comments is he likes to correct posters grammar, I find this a bit discriminating as there is always someone worse or better at such a subject and at the end of the day who really cares if they have problems with basic spelling I'm sure these people have greater skills in other parts of life.....I love my yahct !

And by the way the market yes it is a buyers market but it seems many dreamers and none actually want to dip there hand into there pocket to pay for the goods! My $130,000 yacht is still for sale for below 50 k so congrats to Cisco for going ahead and making a purchase!

I really am unaware of how you could defend anyone with such a narrow arrogant view. To actually make any comment against one of the premiere writers on the Australian coast by an amateur is fool hardy.

As some one else has said where are Cisco books and editorial over the years. I am certainly glad you made such a guarded retraction.

Over the years I have heard many a bad mariner blame guides, but guides are what they are. I for one would want a hell of a lot more experience than Cisco before I opened my mouth on the subject.

Now I would never say anything about a Master 5 who does not use paper charts and has done the east coast! After all recent history shows us of the fiasco in the coral sea a few years back of electronic charts dropping a couple of reefs off that did not matter. They did to the international boats that hit them and were lost.

Why would anyone not use what is available to them.By the way my deckie is a Master 5 and I would not let him out of the pond in the Whitsundays.
On his own.

Some Boatie's are always so quick to think the ones around them don't have real experience.

I came across this today and to be truthful I do wonder why I wasted my time joining.

I believe some one mentioned TROLLS recently.

If the cap fits.

I am going back to sea where I belong with real mariners.

Come on you blokes, this all started when I thought the cost of maps was rather expensive, considering the number that I needed, to go from Port Albert Vic to Qld, Its a first for me Solo (Years ago owned Cray boats out of Flinders Island) This site has been very helpful and am hoping to meet some of you guys along the way, hopefully I have enough experense, equipment and Balls to complete

Welcome aboard salty sea skipper!

I'm hoping that's not Avatar in your profile pic? Anyway nice that you have joined us with your first post.

Why is a master 5 working as a deckie? Beats me

Anyway to his defence again he did not say don't buy Allan Lucas or bag the hell out of his books he basicly just stated they are guides.

Don't be so harsh.......sometimes things get so twisted from forum posts they can spiral out of control.

I'm sure he perhaps actually uses Allan Lucas maps occasionally as a reference.

Navigating the GBR with paper charts is still in this day and age not safe....I use a combination of google images, navionics, eyes and ears and local knowlage with mud maps.

Paper charts I use when all else fails and the satllites fall from the sky.....how ever one needs to learn how to use them hence they would be useless without a GPS anyways unless you can read the sun and moon with a sextant..Which unfortunately they don't teach that skill at master 5 school !

Hi southace

I don't play with toys that size anymore, No more bedbugs or backstackers on what I skipper now in the coral sea.

I am just amazed that people have so much time on their hands to backbite old mariners, Yes Alan is one.

Cheers Jason

Please quote the comment I am alleged to have made against anybody??

As some one else has said where are Cisco books and editorial over the years. There are none as I am not interested in being a legend. I am certainly glad you made such a guarded retraction.

It was a VERY guarded retraction. Admitting to nothing because there was nothing to admit to. So why the hell don't you pricks accept that I have made an apology and retraction at the request of another person who has accepted it and leave the topic alone.

Over the years I have heard many a bad mariner blame guides, but guides are what they are. I for one would want a hell of a lot more experience than Cisco before I opened my mouth on the subject.

So what do you think my experience is??

Now I would never say anything about a Master 5 who does not use paper charts and has done the east coast! OH really!!! I would and it would be quite critical, mainly about his/her legal responsibilities.

On his own. Your "deckie". What is a deckie?? You say he is a Master Class VI which is a "Command" qualification. You also say you would not let him "out of the pond", what Abel Point Marina, in or into the Whitsundays. So what are you?? A Master I???

Some Boatie's are always so quick to think the ones around them don't have real experience. Describing yourself are you??

I came across this today and to be truthful I do wonder why I wasted my time joining. So do I.

I believe some one mentioned TROLLS recently.
