I think that is a bit too general to bear any weight as a profile.

A case in point:- Jode5 has a lovely canal front home in Newport Waterways. He bought a new $500,000 yacht out of Sydney before he had sold his existing yacht for a listed price of $360,000 and he races regularly and he is in his 50s or 60s. He is also a Seabreezer.

I am sure if you had the opportunity to meet him and better still, sail with him, you would find him to be one of the loveliest guys around.

^^^ What happens on the boat stays on the boat is not necessarily the best policy.

Warning others of what of what might happen aboard a particular boat is probably not a bad policy.

I don't see racing as 'fun' there's too much emotion involved. It is a test of skills publicly displayed. The winners punch the air and the losers are devastated. I've only been twilight racing twice, It was the 'upper echelon' boys who did the shouting and intimidating such was their desire to show everybody that their skills were so good. The opposition was 'the enemy', of course they really are just rivals and fellow sailors, but that's what competition does to you. I don't think it's a permanent affliction. The second time I went was on a Holland 25 I think. This skipper was just happy to finish better than he did last time and that was a much better evening. So when the pressures on and the blood is fairly up some nice sailors turn into warewolves only to convert back to normal human beings before they get home to the Missus.

Cisco it maybe worth not posting financial positions of seabreeze members on these forums. There's always going to be someone better off or worse off than ones selfs.

Unless he likes to quote figures I guess that's understandable.

The way I was reading it was that in this thread there seemed to be a general idea coming forth that by default, reasonably wealthy yacht owners that regularly race must be arseholes by definition.

I was just trying to point out that nothing could be further from the truth.

Re what I said in relation to Jode5 :- I was quoting information that he has posted on the forum previously, so therefore already known to everybody here and therefore I have not been talking "out of school".

In this country that operates under the "Free Enterprise System" (less so when Labor wins power), some people become wealthy and some people become or remain poor.

Why is it so????............Circumstances have very little to do with it. The attitude the individual adopts and the choices he/she makes are what determine the quality of life.

If the dream is worthwhile and the desire strong enough, whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, It CAN achieve.

Jules Verne conceived the idea of man going to the bottom of the ocean and of man going to the Moon. Some other people later on believed in those ideas and achieved the feats.

So let us get away from this assumption that if a person is successful and has a bit of bling about them that they must be arseholes. Not true.
