Sitting in front of the TV one night and got carried away on Ebay. Sounded like a good idea at the time (sight unseen)

It has been good therapy to hear everyones stories, especially your bit ;)

I am feeling better now as we have started to make plans for a sail north to Whitsundays in a years time!

Hopefully all the work will pay off.

Fantastic. Good to hear.

I've never seen a thread so thoroughly, wholeheartedly and unashamedly hijacked.

Not hijacked at all. LMY done it when he flicked the tiller with this:-

LMY said.. Yep, they are expensive toys. For most of us they are also old. What else that is mechanical / electrical do you own that was new in 1984 and still works?

Just steered it in a slightly different direction. We probably all have the winter blues.

I had a Ducati Desmo leg breaker in 1974. My best mate then died on his Norton Commando so I went away from bikes. I would love to have an older Duke, Triumph, BSA, Matchless, AJS etc but my pick would be a Velocette Thruxton. You could still buy them new in 1971 when I got my licence.
I am now trying to buy another TR2 in a similar state to the MGA above. It was on eBay so I rang the owner and drove my TR2 down to have a look. My car is TS5038, the rebuild prospect is TS5031. Sister cars that came out to Sydney together in late 1984. It is totally original, been in containers for 40 or so years and has 40,000 miles on it.
For Sydney Seabreezers interested in old cars, the All British Day is on at King's School Parramatta on 31 August. It is worth the day out. I won't be there because I am still travelling. Currently in Florence.

Velocette Thruxton beautiful .
I wish Id kept my old 1968 MGB .
The trouble with a lot of those was there were a lot of cut and shuts out there some had new back halves and later new front haves not quiet original
There was some dodgy blokes around back in those days selling dodgy cars

Only have the one photo now. Seaside suburb in Perth in 1969. Note the shadow of the dickhead taking the photo. The second photo is my Fiat in 1970 carrying a Moth back to Nowra from SA. First boat I built.
