its that time of year again ,and i thought it may be good to have a thread dedicated to the race .

i,m hoping the new American boat Comanche does well . just to add a bit of spice to the event .

on the news tonight i heard wild oats , damaged her boom . I would have thought they might have had a spare boom laying around somewhere in a garage on Hamilton island

any how looks like they are in for a heavy beat down the coast ..........

Good idea on the S2H thread.

S&S34s are in it again. Quikpoint Azzuro, formerly Shenandoah II, is going.

Landfall, a 1935 Tassie built S&S44, S&S47 Love and War, S&S48 Ray White Spirit of Koomooloo and S&S37 Tina of Melbourne round out Olin Stephens fleet.

Something for the aficionados to watch.

Fresh Southerly tomorrow night will favour the older yachts initially. After that the weather moderates and the big dinghies will take over.

Makes mine a bargain. I'll even have it painted in any colour for the buyer for half that amount.

Lovely looking boat. Wonder what the labour cost was in that 300k. My guess is 90%.

Southerly is already blowing on the South Coast. I reckon by the start it will be back to 15 knots offshore and round to the South East.

It is the handicap position that's important Andy. A robust wind with south in it will suit her and the other S&S designs well but it will be bouncy and wet onboard the small ones.

Comanche is going well atm , but as the skipper said when interviewed , they may get caught by the skinny boats as the breeze drops .

interesting that they are running manual winches , as opposed to wild oats electric winches !!

Their electrics broke, so it's back to hand cranking.

Manual winches, sound silly, my guess is, it's all about the weight
they allready overweight compare the other maxis

I just had a look at the AIS (midnight) at what the fleet is up to and "Pretty Fly III" a Cookson 50 is coming up as "Military ops". So the question is, is she a new stealth ship from our Navy or are we being invaded by someone else's Navy?

Even stranger again is the boat at Huskisson, mmsi 503772200 coming up as SV Amber yet the boat is "Notorious the ship" and according to marinetraffic it's a WIG.

I'm in Hay this morning on my may to Adelaide. Watching ABC 24 and there has been some excellent coverage of the race with updates and various talking heads. I'm pleasantly surprised. Commodore of the CYC on at the moment and he is handling the interview very well, young lady doing the interview asking intelligent questions! Weird.

seems the Tracker is buggy (showing Wild Oats waaaay out in front) but the Standings screen is accurate.

ABC news 24 is reporting that Wild Oats has a substantial lead over Comanche. They don't realise that the boat at the front of the fleet is Wild Oats position in 2012 and you have to hover your mouse over Comanche to see Wild Oat's position because they are so close

yes only 1/2 mile in it last time i looked , looks like w/o will get the lead if the wind keeps easing.

the extra oats had me stuffed for awhile this morning as well !!!!!
