It just rolls over into the well I think. That hinged door at the bottom is where it goes through.
Sure did nsw, not 100% happy with the functionality of the OB though, it has its problems with storage & man-handling the 26kg around.
Probably should have ploughed 3 or4 grand into IB, to get its appendages sorted properly, mounts, water pump, stern gland, anodes, mixing elbow etc , but it was beyond my expertise, was just much easier to go for the OB, although probably a little short-sighted.
A few years ago I dumped the old inboard for a Tohatsu 9.8. It's been fine - the boat sails faster, motors faster, has much less vibration and doesn't smell.
I don't like putting oil into the water but compared to what other people do with powerboats or by buying new boats the total eco toll would surely be tiny. We balance that by riding bikes to work each day rather than driving, eating lots from our home garden, buying just about everything else from local markets, etc. Given the enormous lifespan of yachts (and even components like sails) compared to other consumer goods, one would think that family sailing on an old boat could be one of the least eco-destructive ways to spend time. Even if you are sitting at home in the summer many people would be using up lots of electricity that is created by coal-fired powerstations. How would all that compare to a few mls of burned oil?
