It's quite fun.. I had a go today, and did some planing versions of step 1. Pretty much the same as the intro to the video, just faster and wetter! He does a couple of quicker ones in the clips for step_1 - that's where I'm at.
I have no idea how your feet can possibly stay in the straps (nice loose wave straps) doing it though.
On review of the video again, it looks like he's really digging in the downwind rail which seems to help the board pop out and skip where mine was getting dug in and staying put.
No painful landings, and it is good fun to be spun into a blur, then realise that you're pointing the same direction as you started, just with no board.
Tomorrow I hope to have another crack at it, and maybe try adding in a bit of a pop to free the board a bit more. Sounds a lot like step 2.
My next sailing session i will try this with a 125 L Tabou, probably a bit big to try this stuff but give the basics of it a go.
Whats the biggest boards people are using for their loops?
you guys are ****ting me right ??? non of you guys can do this? I was doing forward loops like that 20 years ago.Grow some balls!
Wow mofo, have you been "keeping it real" for 20 years also?

You're right windtechno, Mofo is a kiter judging by their first two posts.
The future of Australia is in good hands, especially when someone's "balls" are most likely bigger than their brains
Their logon is Mofo = Mother F**ker.
What is it with these people?
I'm 39 and been sailboarding since 1985 ,,do the maths noobs! And yes now I kiteboard cos I got sick of taking a trailor full of crap every time I wanted to go for a sail..
How about 400 steps? Yup we've all seen it before but it's pure gold.
Enjoy the cheesy music once again![]()
Not here to start arguments ,I see myself as a sailboarder first and a kiteboarder 2nd and I'm in no way ashamed of that. Like many of the guys/gals I kite with who 50% of them come from sailboarding background .
My problem is I want to be out there if it's 15 kts or 40 kts .the amount of gear you need to cover that wind range is a joke.
Ive put in thousands of hours into sailboarding over the past 25 years ,nearly every day after school and after work in summer and been out ther freezing my nuts off in the crappiest gustiest wind in winter.
I live 400m from the beach so after work I can usually grab a board and a couple of sails ,and most of the time be covered .If I go for a road trip or a full day I take enough gear to cover all conditions. You all know where this is going .3 boards , 5 sails ,3 masts ,3 booms and a collection of fins universals ect.
I'm not bagging sailboarding cos I love it,But now I throw in a couple of kites ,a harness and a small board ,this by the way all fits in the boot of your car and I'm good for anything from 12kts to 40kts flat water / or surf.
To be honest the two sports are that close it's not funny ,Sailboarding you get more speed ,and kiting you get serious air time.love em both.
For those that are ready to take it to the air. The biggest tip i can give is to look back before you sheet in.This will help you go around the mast instead of over it or into it.It will also allow you to spot your landing.
Years ago I was struggling for a long time with them and someone told me this and it made all the difference. Also make sure you reach a fair way back with your backhand.
windtechno i agree with you. i'm not sure which one of you i agree with but none the less i do agree. ![]()
Hey Mofo, if you were forward looping 20 years ago (circa 1989), you most likely would have been one of the first to do it in Australia, and only after sailing for 4 years (you stated you started in 1985).
Now UK Boards magazine states the forward loop was first landed by Mark Angulo in 1987 as a follow on from Cesare Cantagalli's "Cheese Roll". So you would have been at the cutting edge of windsurfing in Australia.
What happened?
My question is, whats a kiter doing lurking around a windsurfing thread?? I've never found myself reading in the kiter threads.
The problem was back in 1980's gear was..... crap! So I agree, with all that frustration! I mean, how long did you have to battle just to learn how to get in the straps. I went through all that when I was a kid and I hated it, but I pressed on. Luckily.
On the whole I think windsurfing is more difficult compared to kitesurfing, but thank God now days the gear is much more easy and user friendly. I only have 1 board and 1 sail, which I use everywhere. At home I have a 4sqm for those heavy days.
They say most windsurfers went to kitesurfing because kitesurfing was easier and you dont need to be very fit. So I guess if I couldnt windsurf, id settle for kitesurfing. You'll notice the kitersurfers that went back to windsurfing are the ones who could windsurf.
I think this is because of the gear issue, people try buy crap gear to spare a buck or two cause the right gear is expensive, but then they end up hating the sport cause its just so hard and tiering. Along comes kitesurfing, cheaper gear, easy, and not tirering. Just take a look at the physique of kiters.
Personally, I'd prefer to spend the extra cash and get 1st prize. But thats me.
Just trying to visualise this with the video. I will be attempting this hint you gave me but scares the hell out of me not being able to look forward
can you give a bit more detail?
cheers
