I was thinking about my comments again, and after reading some other stuff here, I would like to add that while our cost of living has certainly gone up a lot in the last decade, I think that is largely because our standards have gone up a lot too.
I think Oz is expensive these days, but our standard of living is very high too, so I'm not really complaining.
Now, if only I could get some wind..........
No didn't realise that. How many competing grocery chains would you say there are? There are fair trading laws that you'd hope are being abided by.
Right on Stehsegler.
The big end of town didn't get where it is by being fair and believing in competition. They get big by killing their opponents any way possible. There are numerous cases of the big supermarkets trying to kill their oponents through predatory pricing.
One famous example was a supermarket pricing bananas at 50 cents a Kg when the market price was double that in an attempt to draw customers away from the greengrocer next door.
The green grocer's response was to go in, buy all the bananas for sale and sell them in his shop for 51 cents a kg.
after some offline discussions with some people it seems to dawn on me that the situation in regards to cost of living doesn't seem to be as bad in other states such as WA and SA compared to NSW. Not sure if it has to do with the most incompetent state government in the history of the universe or the fact that every greedy f..cker has descended on this state... maybe it's something in the water???
The Gillard govt wants to send 62% of WA's gst east I think.
Seems fair!
I suppose someone has to prop up the rust belt.![]()
Its not only the gang of two shafting WA![]()
what do you do for a living flanagaj, it may not ne a problem if your on the right side of town.
We are becoming a segregated society of the haves, the neraly haves and a lot more have nots.....
Are you lot still crying about the cost of living in Oz??
Boo hoo, poor me, I hate living on the biggest f--ing island in the world, surrounded by the best surf in the world, where the sun shines all year round, and my massive plasma TV won't fit in my home which is a leg-rope's stretch from the beach, and I can't decide what side salad to go with my lobster, topped with fresh mango's, bananas, oranges (which are 50 cents more than what they pay in outer Mongolia!), and damned if I can pick whether to wash it down with a nice drop from the Barossa or Hunter Valley. Damn you all for forcing me to make such harsh choices in life!!
Jesus christ. Take a box of tissues with you on the way out, or grow a pair, shut the F up, and start talking about windsurfing again.![]()
It's more that it's regional.
Sydney is shocking, and so is Melborp and Bris. GC is pretty bad too, but varies a bby area. Somewhere like Coffs Harbour will be cheaper than Bris or the GC in Qld.
Townsville is expensive, but Cairns is pretty cheap. Noosa is expensive, but Bundy and Hervey Bay are much cheaper etc etc.
Basically, Oz is highly metro-centric, and that drives up teh COL in desirable areas, but as sson as you get more than 4 hrs away, teh COL starts to fall.
