I know its been a crappy season for a lot of Aus so condolences to those who haven't got out much.
I was hoping to crack gybing consistently this season & also get chop hops going..I get occasional flashes of brilliance but it looks like these goals might have to be continued next season.. Hope I'm not too old to sail by then..

i think i'm doing okay this season. my gybes have improved considerably, and i plane out of a lot more than i did at the start of the season, so i'm happy about that. i'm pulling a few strap-to-strap ones as well, which has been a 'career' first for me

my other thing, was to get some chop-hops going, and while i'm not threatening the gorge boys by any means, i am throwing out hops at least every second tack and feeling bolder and more in control every time. the season's got quite a few more sailing days in it yet, so i'll keep at it, and hopefully start getting some altitude going.

yep! I've got comfortable sailing a much smaller board this season, and reckon my confidence on the water has improved, and my fitness has improved.

I am rewarding myself with a tuition tune up, booked on Jem Halls Mauritius trip later this year in September - anyone else from Oz coming?

I've achieved a fair few PBs this summer. However my goal is to get a 2 second peak at 30 knots and sail over 100 kms in a day. I'm planning on heading up to Burrum Heads for the speed event. Hopefully I'll make it as its a bit of a trek and hopefully there will be a bit of wind.

Yes i was hoping to break the 40 knot barrier and after 4 times with it shown on the GPS, i smashed into it by achieving a 44.01 on the dial, came down to 43.44 2sec peak. Now to do a 45 before im 18 in two years.

Not even nearly.
Crap season and too much work have resulted in few sailing sessions.
I wanted to build on my budding looping skills, and do some speed stuff, but I have done neither.
I have resorted to buying a bigger rig to get some more flat water time in over autumn and winter, as I'll be working in FNQ again.
Have new sail, waiting for board to come off a wharf somewhere. Hoped to have it in time for this weeks SE, but that's not gonna happen. I did have to be fussy, of course.
I'm thinking of using the GPS to motivate me to do some distance stuff.
100km in a day seems looks a reasonable goal to start with.
I'm philosophical though, having been through the madly obsessive phase before, and not really wanting to go there again, even though the crazy does beckon.

Season must've gotten lost or decided to never show...spent the season trying to get fit for w/surfing by mtb-ing & suping...now it seems that they may have taken over as my primary outdoor activities!

Ain't that the truth.
Add skate long-boarding to the mix and you'll never need to get wet again.
Actually, it's pretty good gybe practise if you do some foot-work stuff.
My foot transitions have never been better.

I have been practicing duck gybes on my skateboard, and today I tried them on the water for the first time. I planed out of the first one I tried, wow they feel great, I did at least a dozen perfect ones and on both tacks. They are far easier than I imagined.

I am going to Gerroa next week and my next goal is the loop.

NO....Not even close, Forward loop was my goal for this year and It has not happened. I sit here in Geraldton on holidays and have had the opportunity but have not taken it, My chicken wings keep sprouting when I have the chance. My chop hops, jumps and stock airs are on the money and gybes are much better which I'm please with but I just can't pull the trigger on that forward. This being my 4th season windsurfing I was hoping I'd be pulling forwards by now....Anyways I need to go and groom my chicken wings for tomorrows session.

Good on you for you those that achieved there goals for this year and keep trying for those that have not, It's all good.

Summer Days...Cheers.

Got 90% of my gybes last night so maybe I won't have to wait until next season! That was on my small board though so back to beginnersville on the large one where I have to learn the footchange. .Only 1 planing one but got round on the others.. Boy it makes a difference to your energy levels when you don't fall and have to waterstart 2 times a run! Ill have more energy for fun stuff like getting chop hops down!

Seriously, just give it a go.
Don't try and do a full forward, just a little barrel/cheese roll.
It does not hurt like you think it will.
A simple catapult is ten times worse.
They call it a catapult, because it can throw a grand piano a hundred yards, but a failed forward is barely enough to pull the skin off your porridge.

Watch the "El Toro" youtube if you don't believe me.

same down the bottom of SA in Beachport, have been sailing absolute heaps and must say the conditions here are what has given me my scores i have so far .

my aim this year was to get 40 knot 2sec, 35 nm, 23 alpha and make the top 50 for this year on the gps team challenge.

and buy a speed board so I bought a F2 missile and it flies...!!!!!!

have made then all already thanks to the missile and so now going for 42 2sec and 37 nm, 25 alpha and hope to try and stay in the top 20 for aussie this year.

oh and I want to go for 300 distance in a couple months when I have holidays.

I wanted to get out so much more often than I actually did. Sadly, work and other things kept getting in the way.

I did get the tick on getting out in the waves and actually riding some waves. Also managing to get air time on the way out. Next step - forwards and breaking 50% success with my gybes.

Not sure about the rest of the country but south coast of WA has been quite windy much of the season, apart from recently due to remains of Cyclone Bianca wrecking our normal weather pattern for a week or two!

As for goals/achievements, been windsurfing since 1984 and have struggled a bit in recent years to maintain my enthusiasm and energy for the sport that has served me so well for such a long time (health problems didn't help!). So far, this season has been a real turnaround compared to last season which was almost a write-off (sailed very little). My health has improved and I've been experiencing so much more exhilaration on the water, partly due to a more positive attitude and higher energy levels as well as getting really comfy with good quality kit!

Not so much about technique as pointing out that he didn't get hurt.
Took a beating, but survived to tell the tale.
I found it pretty motivating.

Everyone told me how much better 'new' kit was but I didn't really appreciate it until recently when after 18months on 2008 gear I got onto my early 90's gear!Cripes I must have been a good sailor to do what I did with it!

Gazman, Mmm yep I seem to have had a run of "events". Both boards have been victim of La Nina, all Melbournes rain and the crap that has ended up in the Bay.
I hit either a tree or a railway sleeper in the SSD, it's pretty well stuffed. The LM Large fell victim to another hunk of wood but is repairable.

Since Nov I have had the demise of the SSD, then the crash on the LM Lrge resulting in 2 broken ribs. A week before Xmas we get an "urgent" job at Holden and my 3 weeks leave gets cancelled. Xmas day my Labrador eats a River stone out of the garden bed which gets stuck in it's intestine. $2000 later Max is fine.
Then my Wife gets T boned at an intersection and the brand new Cruze is pretty much totalled. Kids in the car but luckily nobody hurt and it's a company car.
Then I finally get back on the water and hit another piece of crap on the LM large leaving the bottom cracked open. Oh and Spotty broke my big carbon boom in the LOC ruining his day.
It,s got to be all up from here!!!!

So back to the subject. The goal was to smash through 45 knots. Not met yet as I haven,t been to the PiT since November, but it will happen!!!!!

Whats all the "season" talk, do you all stop for the winter ?
Admittedly evenings are out (save you sickes for the winter !)

My goal for the season was lose 10kg, which I met.
(and that was mainly just to get more use out of my smallboard)
