Actually, on the Broadwater at least, I usually count more windsurfers than kiters. Am I imagining things?

I was looking at some footage on YouTube that must have been shot on a puddle in Europe. I guess there were 200 boards out!

200 windsurfers is a not so busy day at Strand Horst.

If it's really crowded I guess there are around 700 windsurfers and up to 100 tea bags. We regulary have around 60 to 80 speedsurfers and sometimes go over 100 speeders. The speed section then starts to get crowded but is nearly not as crowded as the main section right in front of the large parkinglots.

The biggest parkinglot has close to 350 places, then there's a smaller parkinglot in the kitesection with around 150 places. Between the kite and big parkinglot there is grasland which holds somewhere around 100 cars. The speedsection also has grasland as parkinglot, depending on how everybody parks it can hold anywhere between 150 and 250 cars.

The photo below is from last summer with NE winds. In general august is a quiet month and with NE winds there tend to be lesser people then with SW winds. On the photo it doesn't look that crowded to me, i've seen much more people on the water. Plus the photo only shows a strip of water about .5 km's long. The total area is about 6 km long and at the most southerly point about 1 km wide and at it's widest it's about 4 km.

No wonder European sailboard retailers can give better discounts with a market that big!

Disclaimer: Conditions must be 18 knots +. While there are more kitesurfers they are mostly sheltering on the beach, sitting in cars with seatbelts on.
