What is an 'adjustable out haul to a boom' LOL
So drunk now I'm hanging onto the keyboard for dear life...
If it's one person who owns something, put the apostrophe before the s, as in: "This is Laurie's forum".
If more than one person (ie some people) own something, put the apostrophe after the s, as in "this is my childrens' stash of LSD" or "this is my brothers' secret garden" (if you have 2 or more brothers)...
In Australia recently I saw expensively painted signs on commercial properties and vehicles which were gramatically WRONG! "We wash dog's" - Excuse me? You wash dog's WHAT??? For shame! These racist drongos hassle the foreigners who come here but they can't figure out basic English for themselves!
Whassamaddawidya???
Cantya speakada english???
"Its" and "it's" is easy to remember as you don't say hi's and her's. "Its" is the same.
Possessive apostrophe used before s on singular... ah you all know...
...but an apostrophe is not used on place names or often businesses.
e.g. Lauries Reef, Lauries Bar & Grill.
I expect after this thread the windsurfing forum will be the most grammatically correct forum from now?
Boring fact #1: As Haircut pointed out the Croats spell everything phonetically, as do the Russians and all other Slav languages. At school there is no such thing as spelling lessons.
Boring fact #2: There are more ways to pronounce "ough" than any other combination of letters in the English language. e.g. rough, cough, through, bough, ought etc.
Someone mention spelling phonetically.
I've always loved that word "phonetic"
One of life's great ironies that it isn't spelt "fonetically."
- Practise what you preach, I say.
Oh well, what can you expect in a world in which our feet smell and our noses run!!![]()
