Have I collected a bunch of red thumbs because I implied that a windsurfer could not hassle a kiter because kites are so superior? That was not my intention. Any competent person on a kiteboard or sailboard can easily avoid a pest by riding away from them.
Or because I suggested that pierrec45 is a psychotic, deluded nuisance? Which he clearly is if he really does the things he says he does.
At the risk of speaking for others....
[EDIT - I was defending Barn briefly and then decided against it after the post above
]
For a beginner / intermediate sailor to break something / have something broken for them is a nightmare. After you've wrecked a few (tens of) thousands of dollars worth of kit generally you become more accepting. I have.
Even so, I'd be furious if I was in the position of the OP, partly because of the damage to the sail and partly because it could have been SO MUCH WORSE. I'd definitely have had a polite (seriously) word with the instructor and pointed out the damage.
wrong guess. But yes I probably would be upset if I had to borrow 2001 NP zones and Slalom gear..
If anyone can't handle a dent, broken mast or a hole in their sail then they should bubblewrap their gear and take up chess.. Just don't have a sulk when you loose your bishop, S*it happens..
Didn't say i couldn't handle it and i understand damage will happen to toys, i've ridden dirt bikes for years. That doesn't mean i have to like it or not care if something does get damaged. I work hard for my money and don't enjoy throwing it away. I will continue to use my toys and they will probably continue to get damaged from time to time and guess what i will continue to get annoyed if something does get damaged and will be even more annoyed if it's caused by someone else who hasn't paid for it. AND guess what else my stuff will be worth more than yours when it comes time to re-sell it and buy new stuff because i have looked after it better and cared about it. I have pride in the things i own and bought them in the first place because i liked them so why would i treat them like crap, it doesn't make sense to me. That probably doesn't make sense to you but it doesn't have to.
If you want to look after you gear and keep your resale, don't catapult and don't stand downwind of a kitesurf lesson. I do neither of these so I guess I take care of my gear after all.
Barn
You don't seem to read to well. Like i said in a previous post she travelled around 30m ONSHORE. It was a SSE wind and i was near the beach had only been there 2 minutes or so. She went almost directly west. BUT seeing as though they were at the most Southern end of Shearwater near the inlet she was upwind of everyone. If i haven't been clear up until this point i WAS NOT directly down wind of her. If she had have been standing with the wind in her face and lifted her right arm to the side she would have been almost pointing at me. Get the idea now. My point was that if she had have been taught how to fly the kite PROPERLY first AND been down wind of MANY people in the area no problems would have arisen. There was plenty of room and plenty of excess beach about 150m or so north. People in crowded areas need to consider others and what the possible implications of their actions my be. I was there because i had just split the front of my board and was no longer going to sail it and i was telling my mate what happened when i made a blew trying to gybe. So you tell me mate how much extra room one should allow or should 12 to 14 other people just get out of the water so one person can learn or should that one person move a little to still practice in a very safe area on the same beach so if a mistake is made, and they will be made, can be made with out hurting someone else or damaging someone elses gear. To me the answer is a no brainer but maybe i'm just weird and deluded.
It could be possible that Barns' lack of concern over trashing his gear could be because he is sponsored![]()
PS: I've seen you sail Barn, first hand, and you leave 99.999% of us behind!
If your not breaking gear, your either really really good,
or,
being a sofc0ck and holding back sailing like Flippers granny.
Now we're all yelling at each other, must be the end of the season. ![]()
But don't have a go at original poster, been plenty of whinging on here, mostly whinges about the weather and people who try to predict it too much
Roll on spring.
Barn, you must be about to head off to somewhere windy for next few months?
Old boy 45,,,,wow,such a long rant,,you really do hate kiters.
Still dont understand why you want to purposly annoy people and get in the way.
Sorry to tell you this but,
kiters are growing in number,,you need to learn to get along with everyone on the water and not go out to purposly get in the way of people.Thats just vendictive.
Maybe go and sail away from where schools are trying to make a living???
I know things were good "back in your day" but those days are gone.Sorry
You get on your old gear on the days you want to get in the way of learners????
That wont save decapitation by a learners line around your neck![]()
