Learner Kite surfers

Have I collected a bunch of red thumbs because I implied that a windsurfer could not hassle a kiter because kites are so superior? That was not my intention. Any competent person on a kiteboard or sailboard can easily avoid a pest by riding away from them.

Or because I suggested that pierrec45 is a psychotic, deluded nuisance? Which he clearly is if he really does the things he says he does.

Maybe living at home with a dad* that also windsurfs gives you a different perspective on how expensive things are? It's be pretty handy being able to borrow some 'spares' if you broke yours. Not everyone can do that.

Didn't say i couldn't handle it and i understand damage will happen to toys, i've ridden dirt bikes for years. That doesn't mean i have to like it or not care if something does get damaged. I work hard for my money and don't enjoy throwing it away. I will continue to use my toys and they will probably continue to get damaged from time to time and guess what i will continue to get annoyed if something does get damaged and will be even more annoyed if it's caused by someone else who hasn't paid for it. AND guess what else my stuff will be worth more than yours when it comes time to re-sell it and buy new stuff because i have looked after it better and cared about it. I have pride in the things i own and bought them in the first place because i liked them so why would i treat them like crap, it doesn't make sense to me. That probably doesn't make sense to you but it doesn't have to.

You don't catapult?? that's when I get the most acceleration, the greatest height and probably go the fastest too at any session I have. I never ever miss an opportunity. Only my board seems to have a thing against it

You don't seem to read to well. Like i said in a previous post she travelled around 30m ONSHORE. It was a SSE wind and i was near the beach had only been there 2 minutes or so. She went almost directly west. BUT seeing as though they were at the most Southern end of Shearwater near the inlet she was upwind of everyone. If i haven't been clear up until this point i WAS NOT directly down wind of her. If she had have been standing with the wind in her face and lifted her right arm to the side she would have been almost pointing at me. Get the idea now. My point was that if she had have been taught how to fly the kite PROPERLY first AND been down wind of MANY people in the area no problems would have arisen. There was plenty of room and plenty of excess beach about 150m or so north. People in crowded areas need to consider others and what the possible implications of their actions my be. I was there because i had just split the front of my board and was no longer going to sail it and i was telling my mate what happened when i made a blew trying to gybe. So you tell me mate how much extra room one should allow or should 12 to 14 other people just get out of the water so one person can learn or should that one person move a little to still practice in a very safe area on the same beach so if a mistake is made, and they will be made, can be made with out hurting someone else or damaging someone elses gear. To me the answer is a no brainer but maybe i'm just weird and deluded.

First of all, I want to reassure you: when I get in the way of people trying to ruin the day for others by being upwind and in the way, I use the older rig. Hope that reassures you. I'm not picking on kiters, just that they're the only ones doing that. Once many years ago, a windsurfer didn't want to yield on port tack and I held my upwind. Was fun, we had a beer afterward. Not all crowds are new to watersports and crybabies, you see.

Someone was saying that experienced kiters were out of the way and safe: this is strange, the very few times I had fun on your forum, I thought you guys had concluded that well-publicised accidents were happening regardless of level. But you're right that experienced types are no problem to others once they cleanly sail away.

A previous poster (the one who can spell, forgot the name) was saying most kiters are out of the the way. Well, on certain days it's half of them learning and in the way. Or worse, having a chat with the lines dragging. I find 'schools' do that too. Aren't 'schools' supposed to be run by experienced kiters ??

Why they'd get upwind of launching areas all the time for that, I don't know. Lotofwind, since you approve and find that funny, you should explain. As I was saying, I think they want to avoid being blown onto the shore, create room and not walk far. Perhaps they simple lack common scents, as some previous challenged poster wrote (too many times being blown into trees??). Perhaps they're the same larrikins that got a beach closed nearby here a couple years back. Seems to me, they look the same.

On a 5-mile ocean shoreline with side winds, it's not a problem - there's room to walk away.

On an on-shore wind on a shallow beach, you don't have the choice but to brush off with those.
The couple main sailing spots here have a small departure area. In many years, I never saw windsurfers runs into mast or lines. People getting in the way all the time is a recent phenom - guess what changed.

"Lasting long at your local": do you even know of the typos in your tattoos? Anyways I've seen as many kiters run into each other in this case (since they can't depart either), so I seem to be a very minor problem to kiters... Just look at your forum sometimes LOL.

NEVER never saw a problem with sailors of all types stay a reasonable, safe distance from one another. Never. That includes kiters.

I read good, but I'm the token Gen-Y and as a generation we don't read anonymous 1st post spiels on the internet over a paragraph, especially when they involve having a go at kites, *yawn*... Then we comment on something and annoy the f**k out of Grumpy Old Men who can't comprehend how someone can accept gear damage without emotionally breaking down..

I find it pretty funny how people are writing off/red thumbing my indifferent attitude to gear breakage as just me having an amazing financial position.. If you sail enough you accept it happens, I'm not alone either.. Take a trip to Brazil and see the attitude of the locals when the board 5 kids are sharing gets written off.. Or the next town where the kids can't even afford shoes, but they still come down and watch the windsurfers, in the hope somebody will give them a turn..

tl'dr.. Damaged gear? Upset? pull your head in.

I think you are getting red thumbs as your posts reek of the "I am so hardcore I don't care if I damage gear when I am sailing so good" - reinforced by your comments like saying "don't catapault" to a learner/intermediate - which is really condescending.

You may be a really good sailor but you don't need to tell everyone about it.
