Looks like so much fun
8 knots to you now will feel like 20 knots and there meant to be real confortable to sail not like the crappy formular boards.. ya so lucky can i have a go??? Hey you should take it in the surf as well![]()
Bloody awesome boards, dining table on steroids.
Point really well, a little shake with the feet and she pops up on the plane.
Scary fast downwind ![]()

Woooo hoooo collect mine tomorrow can't wait, going to keep it in the house for a few days, you know let it settle in a bit.
Noice! Mine gets here in a few days too.
I think it will need a whole rack in the trailer! There must be a few people gettin em...
How it would work this out for beginners? I plan to buy a 140L board or more, next year for me for light wind and also for my gf to learn on it...? (she knows how to lift the sail, sail a bit and do a tack in light wind with a 5.0 sail)
While they are "user friendly" I believe they are still quite technical, they are very short, so probably not ideal to tack etc. Certainly difficult to learn straps as they only have the one position and that is way outboard. So Probably not ideal, and you may be better of a more classical style.
Also it is probably quite fragile .... It is only available in pro- edition or super duper gold edition.
yeah, probably better to buy a Shark or sth... prolly that might work better for her even with smaller sail, while I use my Class X Thommen 105L
Ok
y'all talking about the hype and everybody wants one so I'll ask the dumb questions (I haven't been on anything other than wave gear for a long while)
What is different? Is it a light wind planer that also gybes OK (unlike a formula) and goes downwind a bit better? So it is a formula board with softer rails and some tail rocker?
Looks like a Starboard Hypersonic from ages ago (was it 2003 they first came out?)
Not taking the p!ss, genuinely interested as to what is revolutionary and exciting about it
JH and Kimba,
Can you advise the length of the fin you get with the board, please?
A fin length of 56cm was quoted during a video test at Rik's UK and he thought this might be a bit small, particularly with 7.5/8.5m sails.
Bet you can't wait to get them on the water!
It looks like a very large boogie board!
Not taking the piss either, it's just an uncanny resemblance. Apart from shorter dimensions, volume and weight than say my Kona One and both offering lightwind performance, I wonder what the pros and cons would be assuming weather conditions and rig are the same?
Interesting concept compared to the 144/150 Isonics, according to what I've read the JP is a different animal. Good to have a back-to-back comparison between the 2 brands.
Just educating myself on modern gear.
Looks like a Hypersonic 122? almost the same dimensions except no concaves which is what I liked about them ! Looks great hope you have loads of fun.....
Hi WindmanV,
I am pretty sure that it comes with a single JP Slalom III 56(although the range on the JP site only goes to 52). I have bought an S10 57 as recommended by Rik, I already like the smaller Selects so I hope this will be great for the SLW's usable range. Rik does think a 60+ fin will help for extreme days on the planing threshold.
What sails are people expecting to use them with? I'm using 9.5 & 7.8.
You Blokes are lucky to have them already and Elmo, its great to hear that you think they played down the Hype!
Just got mine home.............. Pleased to see mine comes with a mast track ! I have included a photo for you mast track deniers.
Cant wait until tomorrow now.
How does it go...
Well I am impressed, had some very average wind today and had a blast....I'll need a 9.0 for days like this. Does it just pop onto the plain and stay there...No, you do need some technique to get it going. Once it is going it WILL stay there all day, screams upwind without trying and goes downwind without a fuss. It goes through the chop with ease and is comfortable to ride and gybes well. Everything seems quite balance and it's easy to get into the straps(once you work out where they are), no problem with the fin...I put every bit of weight I had through my back foot and the board actually likes this.
I'm just going to play with mast track positions to see if I can get the board to release a bit earlier...if there are any formula guys out there, where do you guys run your mast base...front, back, middle or anywhere?
Best speed for the day was 19.53 knots...there is heaps left in her.
....Get one.
