Ahh bugger, messed up the lower back again!!!
AAARRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
DAMN DAMN DAMN!!!
This time I overdid it because I can only get out twice a week at the moment. I tried to do 7 days worth of sailing in 2 days, and did hours and hours of practice in light wind, which involved lots of uphauling...AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!

...somebody shoot me...Stewie, do you do contract hits?
I'm feeling for ya Willy
Got a pinched nerve in my back at the moment, been struggling to walk for the last couple of days, the couple of km's I had to walk today for work wasn't fun, hence my slightly warbled sense of humour this evening
You're getting old Willy and you need to warm it up before you do anything.
I go to a sports therapist and he showed my some good stretches to do.
One is to lay on the floor on your back. With your legs straight out and together, start with your left leg. Bring your left knee up till your heel is by your right knee, then kick your leg out gently in a circle, as wide as you can, back to the starting point. Like a frog kick. Dont let your heel get more than 5 cm off the floor.
Do that ten times each leg morning and night. You will be all better.
i think it's more of the--it's windy gotta rig quick and forget the stretching
worse comes to worse there's always morphine![]()
Hey WW, SUP is, I hear excellent for core strength.
I buggered my back years n years ago. I couldn't do any exercise for it because when I did it went out. Then I tried a really really easy exercise namely leg raises. Lie on back lift a leg 20 cm off floor and hold for 20 secs or so. Repeat it a few times for each leg every 2nd day. After a month of that I moved on to gentle hovers and back hyperextensions. Now I do normal core exercise once or twice a week and I don't have any back trouble but years of back sensitivity has left me back conscious and a little inflexible.
Tip - If you're going to do lots of uphauling, buy or rig yourself an Easy-Uphaul. It makes uphauling leg work.

Must keep lower back strong...yes yes
But more important- Must keep back flexible so that distorted vertabra go back into place.
There is a tendency to lock up the back rigid when it has been hurt and this slows recovery.
Still do my flexibility exercise 20 years after a Singapore girl fixed me up from close to crippled.
Fingers on hips and try to rotate them backwards. Stop if it hurts.
(I would describe it as reverse rooting )
More like an unhook in a 30 knot gybe when you are suddenly aware of the chaos an inadvertent hookin would create. Repeat a hundred times slowly.
Why do girls never have back problems? Cos they naturally pop bootie..
No music, gotta concentrate altho falling asleep at 38 is most likely, and at first it will start to hurt at 10.
Lets see, how would Cribbie inspire u?
"Gotta do it in slow motion to commit it to muscle memory first."
1. Lie straight on back and put a finger on each hip bone. This is to monitor pelvic rotation which will be typically zero at first as your back has no doubt locked itself up.
2. Like a gybe there are about 6 separate positions which must be integrated into one smooth rotary movement-
suck in tummy and lift bottom slightly off the deck
force pelvis towards your feet.
think about curling your tail bone back under u. this is most important part.
weight back onto bottom
repeat. your fingertips will have moved in a tiny circle which you will endeavor to enlarge. morning and night for a week should do it..
In the meantime, I think that you have got it.
Rotating the usual way is for fun, the opposite direction is for fixing.
Get missus to soften lower back muscles first by gentle massage might help.
If it is like mine-
Any sideways stretches and movements as prescribed by "sports" physios hurt and are counter productive. They were killing me by degrees.
Chiro is nono. First session fixes you for a while, second one does nothing, third one sets you back worse than ever.
Singapore girl said "You sili boy, never do exercise that hurts you"
Thanks a million babe
