I can't really see why you love winter so much. It's dark, it's wet, it's cold. Yeah we get bigger winds than summer but they're gusty and often short-lived.

Plus finding a decent spot to sail in a W is not easy.

Give me summer any day.

it's good to see you guys have the same debates on the other side of the country.

i reckon the bigger the blow the better.

seabreezes are nice but the winter fronts are stronger.

I've been secretly adding lots of beans to my vegetarian pizza in the hope of helping the situation somewhat...

Failing that we need to make a sacrifice I think. Anyone got a spare kiter kicking around their shed?

The sacrifice has to be significant if its to be considered worthy.

No way peasant sunny days 15 to 20 knts zzzzzzz Winter yeah Heavy dark clouds, hanging on for dear life, thats when you know your alive.Rain smacking you in the face, squalls that flatten you, adrenaline pumping, natures throwing it all at you! Heaps more exiting, It's the elements at there best and your out there playing in it, the gusty ness adds to the challenge and fun. Ok if the BOM makes the wrong call and it doesn't happen then that's cr4p, but when it's on it's on.

I agree.... my most memorable days sailing were at glassy Esperance, few turns down the line... but the days where I came home really proud of myself or had the most to talk about to non windsurfer people were the 40kn days at Crazy Waves. Especially when it was head hi coming at you from both directions

I'm looking forward to a westerly at a newly discovered spot (well new ot me but who knows) where winter will be cross shore and we have about a shoulder to head hi break over sand about 50m offshore... awesome

I like westerlies as, although gusty, don't usually disappoint for strength. After all, you can always sheet out if it gets too much.

best bit about winter is sailing with one closed a la popeye, coz of the horizontal rain.....or if it starts hailing, then hiding under your sail ha ha ha

bring it on....

If we all line up along the shoreline, bums facing the water, we might just have enough power to... errr.... no, belay that thought.

I still have mixed feelings about this summer vs winter debate.
At this very moment give me a sunny day, 20/25 knots, a few mates and fun waves at my local anyday
Im yet to have a good day at Crazies. To me its not worth the drive just to jump waves. I wanna ride waves.
The closest Ive had to riding waves in winter was at Crystals.
And Im yet to experience the leg breaking wrath of Buckets

Best you pack up and store your gear for winter and just go SUP ing instead.

lol.
You sound desperate.
Two more months to kill, poleys.
Strong storm-fronts don't really happen until July.
Cold fronts occur in cold weather.
Today was warm as pie.

Absolute min. requirement for serious fun polesurfing......
25 knots of gruntwind.
Keep counting down the days, dudes.
Meanwhile, the kiters keep on kitin'.

Either you don't have a clue or your still trolling (probably both).
15+ for most people
10+ for formula
At least when the wind drops I can comfortably sail back to shore. What do you do? Swim?

Think slave is remembering his own gear, approx 60liter boards, they went well from 25kts to 50kts. The more it blew the more slave liked it.
He was almost always the last one out at gearie's when the wind was going ballistic.

My tip for winter sailing, you need one bucket with lid, put in your cold wet wetty and add hot water before leaving home. I've done it a few times and it's friggin' awesome! hell, I'm gunna go and do it now.
