I now have three koncepts... 5.0 5.8 and 6.6 which i find suite me down to the ground with enough spacing between. still have a couple older (200-2003) wave sails just in case as well. Dad still keeps his 7.0m GTX which he loves but i barely use as i tune the 6.6 Koncept to have more power anyway. Only when i'm giving his gear a spin really. its much easier when all the sails are the same though. i used to have a 5.0 wave sail, 5.8 wave sail, 6.0 cammed sail, 6.5 cammed sail and 7.0 cammed sail and 7.8 non cammed sail but they were all different. it was hard to judge. Thought it was important to have cams when the sizes increased as the non cammed ones just didnt feel right to me in the bigger sizes over say 6.0m. At different stages i even had 4.7 and 5.3 wave sails which i never even got wet and sold shortly after buying them with a sail/board package.
I cycle my gear round heaps though even though i don't get out on the water as much as i would like (were an hours drive away and i only have my L plates just now lol), keeps me interested. I cant even get to my gear at the moment though as its packed at the very back of the garage behind all our junk from inside the house (were moving/selling house house at the moment). I'm now at the stage where i have the three sails and one board idea but i'm sure it wont be long until i get back to ten boards and ten sails again..... goes in cycles really... quite funny.
Cheers

bubs 3 sails, 1 board is hard unless you get consistent conditions like here. I reckon most people would happily get away with 3 sails, 2 boards for 99% of their sailing conditions. I planned on 2 sails, 2 boards & know I can get away with it easy but being 95 kg I can probably hold down sails for a bit longer.
Its a bit of a trap, I like you tended to collect gear. If I had my time again at your age being a bit more hollow than I am now I just would have stuck to a 6.5 & 5.5 with 1 board and invested my money a little bit more wisely. For most of my windsurfing time I've floated around the 5 boards/6 sails mark. Now I live by have less gear, but have better gear
.
Geez what is it with you mexican's- try to bring a constructive discussion and get accused of being a wanker or winger (whatever the f*ck that is). It would be terrific if sails where spaced 0.2/3 apart as ezzy etc have done, some designers should be applauded for what they bring to the sport (how the hell is that wHinging?) irregardless of whether you like their gear or not. At the end of the day we live with what we've got- if you're not happy with what is offered you make your own as you have done but some don't have the means. I've had as much fun on some of the boards you listed above in the past as I do today, but I fail to see your point- are you implying that because that was all that was available at the time it is the best way?
I used to have more fun when i only had one board 2 sails but some how i have collected CA sP40-CA sp50-Manta 67-Manta 59-Falcon 131 and Blades 5.1-5.6-6.2-6.8-7.5.
It makes it harder to decide what to use but getting to tune everything does take time and i have now used and tuned all my gear it took 9 months before i sailed the sp40, my personal stats on GPS speed surfing really helps identify what equipment i use the most.
When you only have a couple of sails and boards you really learn how to get the most out of the gear.
Stats are from 2008 i have since changed most of my boards/sails
I remember seeing ads in the mags years ago about a 2 in 1 sail were you could unzip the bottom part of the sail and make it smaller it actually was a good idea don't know why it didn't take off
.yer remember those sails were cut like triangles and made from soft dacron(they needed something),you could roll the sail around the mast, that could have been the start of the change (bigger foots) but it wouldnt work today cos of the stiff monofilm
i remember i had a fred hayward pryde speed 5.9 460 mast
it had a huge foot but it still had the string running down the leech so you could tighten it too make the sail like a bag, i did rig that sail a couple of years ago on a carbon mast with heeps of downhaul and i was surprised how much the sail was laying off and how tight it was without a wrinkle
Actually. the amount of use I get from a sail has little to do with my decision to have one. I actually have TWO 4.4m Koncepts and I have not even used that size so far this year. I also have TWO 370 skinny masts for them. There is no way I would not have this setup. I get to use the 4.4m about 2 or 3 times in a good year, BUT, they are THE BEST days I have sailing. I was actually trying to get a 4m Koncept, even though I think it would sit in the shed for years with no use because on that one day of epic conditions every couple of years, I want to be out there scaring myself silly, not sitting on the beach moping about not having a sail small enough. ![]()
To explain the 2 sails and masts thing. We had an epic 3 day blow in march a few years ago. On the first day I put my foot through the foot of the sail and hip through the mast just as it was getting good. That meant I was totally compromised for the next two days. (OK, I managed to patch up the sail but I didn't have a mast until the last day when I managed to get a mate bring a new one down from Melbourne). I was so pissed off I now have my "2 of everything for epic conditions rule". ![]()
I actually only use a 7.5m sail a few days over summer but I would not be without one as those days are so much fun and sometimes if I could not sail those days I would not get to sail for a week!
i love your form sailquick, ![]()
i have a 4.7 kaos and 400 mast and 84lt wave board i reckon i'll use 2 maybe 3 times a year. maybe even only once a year, but in the end i know i'll use it. ![]()
