The only thing that is stopping me bearing off more is I hate losing ground downwind and having to get back up.Its not an issue in summer as I do long tacks in the chop to get to the sand island so its easy to get upwind. Where I sail in winter if you stay in the flatwater there are only short tacks so it's harder to stay upwind especially if you want to keep out of the worst of the weed..

Problem with a lot of the so called 'better' fins is the higher price you pay, most are well over $200 which can work out pretty expensive if you're planning on getting a number! (the Choco fins I've got were under $180ea).

I actually never used the stock 32 fin that came with my 05 rocket 61. Always used a select fin on it...wouldn't mind trying the stock fin but just so used to my select slalom fins :D. I'll try to see what I can hit on the rocket with the stock fin.

Never had any fin let go as much as the std 30cm Rocket fin did when I first used it, particularly on a fast broad reach with minimal pressure on the fin! Swapped it for a curvy 28cm freeride fin from my Fanatic Hawk and didn't let go when pushed quite hard so suspected that Rocket fin was a dud! (someone else mentioned in this thread that they weren't impressed with the std fin either, didn't they?).
For your info, I emailed UK speed guru Dave White who was the UK importer of Tabou boards a number of years ago and asked him what fins he used in his Rockets when sailing them FAST (think the 125 was his fav). His reply: standard Rocket fins.

I have a Manta 59 and Rocket 61 and feel that the Manta is definitely faster on a straight than the rocket but the rocket imho turns easier. I've managed to get the rocket to keep up with some of the racers in my area on a good day. If the speedster is anywhere near the Manta and can turn like the rocket than I'd definitely place an order for one!

Don't know what state you're in Kevin (hopefully not too inebriated at present!) but if you're chasing a copy of the mag try Shepherds Newsagency in Fremantle WA (I picked up two copies a week ago and they said they had more) or Garden City News in Booragoon.

What fins do you use in your Rocket to go fast?
Been experimenting with the Select S1 and the VMax. I use a 37 vmax for my 7.4 and a 33 for my 6.6; both are koyotes. If I'm well powered up I'll drop down to a 31 for the 6.6.
Been very pleased with the combo!
