Haha, thanks Donk...I think ive been confused for a kiter. I don't dislike all kiters though, some mates are very good at wave riding both on a kite and waveboard.

All these personal anecdotes here...
On the more general side, it is my personal experience that some annoying % of windsurfers do not follow etiquette. And just about no kiter at all, since (inland Great Lakes anyways) many took it up as a trendy thing to do and have no background in sailing and dealing with people. And the windsurfers that switch over for good are often not the good ones anyways.
I really would not use a wa...r that claimed to have windsurfed for 20 years as a reference for the windsurfing crowd in general, if this is what is being purported here.
However, regardless of their background, yes you're right it is great to watch them run into each other and lines all the time. Great stuff.
I think the Star Wars analogy is perfect. (BTW, for you poor, tragic youngsters who weren't able to catch the first wave of Star Wars fever back in '77-'78, boy did you guys miss out. The defining cultural event of the millennia, and you poor little buggers were born just a few years too late! Ya had ta settle for watching it on one of those Deevy Dee things, decades too late. Might as well not have bothered, I reckon!)
*ahem* anyway, basically the Dark Side of the Force tempts those with weaker minds, offering them power and the gratification of their desires, and is much quicker and easier to master than the lighter side, which requires much sacrifice and discipline. But, ultimately, the Dark Side consumes them and leaves them hollow, as exemplified by Anakin Skywalker, who lost everything he loved and became a monster. He's a Kitesurfer, and guys like Obi-Wan and Yoda are windsurfers, diligently practising their gybes for years after Anakin has already mastered all the ways of the dark side. Theirs is the humbler, more noble way, and ultimately they win.

I've been out of windsurfing for so long that when I finally get out there again I don't care what you ride just get out of my way coz I'm gunna be out of control!!!
