Realising a vest and shorts just aren't going to cut it anymore, leave water, then spending 10 minutes struggling and squeaking into a full-length wetsuit because you are ever so slightly damp. Near impossible.
Put a plastic shopping bag over your hand/arm same for your feet and they will slide in easily try it it works
Gusty westerlies. Screaming along one minute, then balls deep in freezing water the next.
Start of winter, gut is slightly bigger due to less excise after the horrid autumn lull. Shiny wetsuit torso seems made to highlight any new bulge. At least I'm usually looking better in the wetty by the end of winter.

Also wasting hours driving down to sail because Nobby's says gusting 20 - 30kts & finding its just that..gusts..& unsailable -30kts & then 5kts for hours .Turning around & going home.
only to find out it picked up half an hour later & blew its guts out..[}:)]
Cold and miserable

Then of course on the first day of spring it will be sunny, warm and a nice 20 knot sea breeze
1.Sailing on a s'westerly after 4 pm with th winter setting sun is right in yor face.
2.Not being able to feel your feet when you get out of the water.
3.Not many kite surfers around to torment [}:)].

Winter grimness is having to wear a 5mm wetsuit, the thickest rashvest you can find, boots, gloves, hat and its still bloody freezing!!! And it lasts for at least 6 months.... thats the UK winter, I'm yet to believe winter exisits in NSW!!!

I will say the worst thing about winter is moving away from the snowy mountains to live on the goldy, then realise 15 years later that I really miss the snow! But winter time surfing is tops.
Evil next time you see me out windsurfing in winter, you will reckognise me easily, I will be the one wearing the euro trunk.
