Baywave Bill has also availed himself of the generosity shown by Beach Culture at DFO and snagged himself a Billabong SG5.
That's where these forums work well.
Hmm, I just went back looking for the original pic in the forums, it appears to have been erased. Must have gotten a little too "racy" for sea breeze......![]()

brought full 5mm suit from U.K. where we'd break the ice on the lake edge to get in over winter, made for diving in the North sea.
2 good tips if v.cold:
- wear washing up gloves tucked into your sleeves, water gets in but keeps windchill off
- rubber swimcap under helmet !
Hey
If you really want to stay warm in winter, you need to move here to FIJI, where the water is 29 degrees and the Winds are about 20-25 knots.
Lovely conditions, come up and play!

At another thread, someone said the sail boarding season was finished - and no-one appeared to challenge that. Good to see many responses here show people do windsurf in winter.
Like the hot water in bottles in the esky with a towel. Must also remember that for kayak rolling sessions or canyoning on rainy days.
I wear a long-sleeze cag with latex neck and wrist seals, over the top of the wetsuit, or sometimes underneath, if I am wearing a farmer john.
Here is another, selling for $55 in Sydney;

Had a look at the quiksliver cypher heated vest the other day
http://www.quiksilver.com.au/cypher-ps-heat-vest-system-6?default=7021
Quite a neat system with two carbon kidney heat pads powered by a sealed battery pack.
Lasts for 2 Hrs on high setting.
Info a little sparse on lifespan of battery and cost of a replacement.
$299 better spent on a good suit?
I'm amazed at the stuff produced today
. How soft are we spose to become?? In years gone by people used jumpers to keep warm when surfing in winter. Heck, I know one bloke who only wears Spedos when diving in the guts of winter-stays out 3 hours in 15 deg water. Too cold for me, but anyone can grab a used steamer for about $60 off Ebay. These new fangled gimicks only make your wallet empty and people soft.![]()
Phil,
I was one of the people who learned to surf in the middle of winter, using a footy jumper. They didn't keep you warm and became incredibly heavy when wet, so you had to be careful if you lost your board (this was before leg ropes) and faced a long swim in.
I was one of the first local surfers to get a real wettie and I can tell you, I prefer the wettie!
There used to be an old Russian woman who swam almost every morning at Brighton Beach and she used to swim naked. Melbourne in winter with water at 8 deg. C was probably quite warm for her.
Winter is upon us once again, but instead of letting its icy breath interrupt your life, conquer the freezing temperatures with these tips are:
1: Install a Programmable Thermostat
2: Insulate Outlets and Switches
3: Winterize Your Body to Stay Fit and Healthy
Wow very keen.
He must be boiling using all his energy to get out.
Would like to see him get back without getting crushed.
Kind regards
Walt
at 2.10 he is windsurfing a iceberg
you know it cold when you have to push through a iceberg to get in the water
i get annoyed when i have to walk through some weeds ,
is there a iceberg fin ?
i am not feeling the cold as much
I have found that if i have a hot drink before and after each 1 hour run , is great
i just try to sail were there a elecltric BBQ and and leave my thermal bottle
( they only have a 15 min heat time so it keep it warm )
also now i am learning fast and not falling in as much , helps too ![]()
