hey don't bully up on me but it seems am kinda getting to like course board racing on a kite..the yellow course boards built by a once known Maui wave sailor seems like there beginning to look like mini sailboards without the sail every bit the same in construction somewhat..I guess in light winds 8-12kts it's a lot of fun but past 15kts am on a sailboard..so what's happening am I getting a bit old trying to get every kilo of equipment on the truck unload, rig, derig, load and unload..whereas a 2 kite kits quiver can fit inside and all you need is inflate, attach, deflate and all at a weight of what 10kilos? just to stir up my thoughts and no one elses![]()
If I was younger , richer and lived on the coast I wouldn't mind giving it a go..last time I went out I was chugging and they were all getting along ok..gusty 10-15kts..I haven't got formula gear & the biggest sail I want to use is the 6.6m.To make it worse where I sail with them it is so shallow that I have to drag/walk the board up 500m to start..they just walk past with their backpacks.and then cruise through the shallows.
Still I think I would get bored with it unless I went in the surf.Mind you at least I could turn .. getting sick of my dodgy gybes..which reminds me Ill have to make the effort to rig up & do some dry land gybe practise today..
Don't get me wrong I LOVE sailboarding..I am a bit disgusted at my lack of talent though..![]()
yeah - I have been thinking about this lately too :P
Don't get me wrong - I love Windsurfing - but I recon I'd be happy doing both.
I've had a kite for about a year, only ridden it about a dozen times...
I keep on putting it in the car, thinking "Maybe if it's not very windy I'll put it up".
But most times when I get there I think "Man I could get going on my windsurfer in this" ![]()

I love WA ![]()
Not to get me wrong too am still very much into windsurfing if it hits 15plus but below that this fabric in the sky is just too fun not cruise around there's no fuzzy windshield downwind
it's not that expensive here as windsurfing and kiting is too many 2nd hand gear in very good condition..the courseboard was a steal..Just like Greenie says' its fun and just keep quiet bout it'...am not into trick stuff just cruising and an occasional boost but then again when there are 5 windsurfers and just 1 kiter here in the island it's not much fun![]()
sigghhh too bad ey Mark
..well each has his own say..as for me I did make sure only 12-14mtr. kites so when it's real windy I sail since am now left with the biggest sail I have which is a 7mtr...I was tinkering on the idea of a 10mtr.kite but nah..I only bring a kite with the windsurfing gear only when I think it's not the full tradewind season so at least a fallback position![]()
Hi Guys, I don't often post on your forum but this thread looked interesting. I know how much you like to carve big turns so I thought I'd share with you this recent development in kiting. Hope you like it. It's the sort of riding I like to do.![]()
This is about the best advert for kiting I have seen. Kiting on a raceboard does extend the the useable wind down to at least 8 knots, so it could fit in below the windsurf range.
