If I was younger , richer and lived on the coast I wouldn't mind giving it a go..last time I went out I was chugging and they were all getting along ok..gusty 10-15kts..I haven't got formula gear & the biggest sail I want to use is the 6.6m.To make it worse where I sail with them it is so shallow that I have to drag/walk the board up 500m to start..they just walk past with their backpacks.and then cruise through the shallows.
Still I think I would get bored with it unless I went in the surf.Mind you at least I could turn .. getting sick of my dodgy gybes..which reminds me Ill have to make the effort to rig up & do some dry land gybe practise today..
Don't get me wrong I LOVE sailboarding..I am a bit disgusted at my lack of talent though..

That's a very slippery slope you're messing with.

Everybody that windsurfs that tries kiting says, "I'll do both. I'll kite when it's light and windsurf when it's strong. It'll be great."

I got my first kite and before I realised it 11 months had gone by. I dragged out the sailboard and had a lovely session on it. It was fun. Another 11 months went by and all the sailboarding gear went into the Trading Post.

The various benefits of both disciplines aside, there's no way windsurfing can compete with the compactness and convenience and versatility of a kite and a single small board. I can fit 3 kites and 2 boards in the boot of my car giving a wind range of 10-12 to 40-50 knots. A single kite and board can be fine for 10-25 or 15-30 knots.

We need an intervention. BROTHERS UNITE!!!!

I know lots of kiters who used to windsurf. After 5 - 8 years ish for these guys, they really want to come back to windsurfing a sthey feel kiting in the waves is limited and as very very good kiters they are running out of stuff to do, and want to go back to doing loops and actually surfing waves not just be dragged along them and wiggle rail to rail a bit.

Before the kiters' lynching and flaming me starts, that is their words not mine. Lots of them wanna come back

I've had a kite for about a year, only ridden it about a dozen times...

I keep on putting it in the car, thinking "Maybe if it's not very windy I'll put it up".

But most times when I get there I think "Man I could get going on my windsurfer in this"

Not to get me wrong too am still very much into windsurfing if it hits 15plus but below that this fabric in the sky is just too fun not cruise around there's no fuzzy windshield downwind it's not that expensive here as windsurfing and kiting is too many 2nd hand gear in very good condition..the courseboard was a steal..Just like Greenie says' its fun and just keep quiet bout it'...am not into trick stuff just cruising and an occasional boost but then again when there are 5 windsurfers and just 1 kiter here in the island it's not much fun

wow sure does look a lot easier than the quad fins..

Its quite enjoyable to windsurf on a big board and small sail in the 3 to 10 knot range and doing some freestyle. So no, a kite raceboard's range doesn't fit below windsurfing range.
