And i would like to know who invented the name? i first heard the name from a bloke down at rye last summer. I said to this windsurfer there is a few kiters around, he replyed ''there is a few tea bags flying around'' thats when i started calling them tea bags after chatting to that windsurf dude that day.
i think it's a fine name for kiting.
Have not hear them called that before, though i have dunked a tea bag in a cupper before and can see the resemblance.

Dont want to burst any bubbles, but they have been called tea baggers for as long as I can remember.
Because they look like a tea bag being dunked in the ocean.
I call it teabagging when you go out and dont get plaining.. obviously until recently when i have heard kiters referred to as teabaggers. Definatley do not want to give the wrong impression

Kato wheres his visor down cause it gives him that extra 5 knots of speed. He looks alot like dark fader with that dark visor down, but hey its 2009 so any thing goes thease days.
Well, another name for kiters (they call them this at Margaret River) is Tampons.

It was originally called tea bagging. The manufacturers of the gear thought kitesurfing was a better name for marketing purposes. There were also some legal issues with Lipton.(are you a jiggler or dangler?)..Over the years,people have come to think that "tea bagging" is only a nick name. It is also rumoured that some of the worlds top kiters have been approached by Lipton regarding major sponsorship !
Ok, time to get serious. I looked up the meaning of the word teabag in a dictionary and it said ''a substance of a plant that people often drink'' and went on to say ''the word teabag is often used as a name for kiting inthusiasts''
Teabaggers or pole huggers, all good it is the Australian way, like redheads being called blue, ya gotta love it

To think, all these years I just assumed they were called "Teabaggers" because,
1. they are so easy to stir
2. once placed in water they seem to turn it murkey brown in hue!!
3. (just like the ones on the shelf in the supermarket) even though they are screaming for your attention in their brightly clad colours, you still tend to walk right past them without noticing !!

Hang gliders have called paragliders tea bags for almost 20 years. It sort of goes with anything were you have people bobbing along on the end of strings.
Tea-bagging happened a lot in the early days when you got over powered. You got repeatedely lifted and dunked in the water until the wind dropped or you crashed your kite.
