Hear me out on this one :

Odds of picking 7 numbers from 45 is 1:45,379,620

.....

How did you get 45 million combinations?
Happy for someone to correct my maths, but I get...

Picking 7 from 45
45*44*43*42*41*40*39 = 228,713,284,800

Picking 6 from 45
45*44*43*42*41*40 = 5,864,443,200

I don't mean to be picky but if my $1.35 is going to be at risk....

Over to the maths experts of Seabreeze for confirmation (or otherwise)...

That method is looking for the odds of getting a specific order of 7 numbers out of 45. As in, 1,2,3 is different to 1,3,2

In lotto you can have any combo. So 1,2,3 is the same as 1,3,2 and dramatically increases the odds of winning, over needing a specific order.

Edit: I think, it was a while since doing this at school!

Double Edit: After a quick google what I said was correct.

What you wrote is 45!/(45-7)! which equals that really big number.

The correct way is 45!/[7!(45-7)!]=approx 45mil

^^ Yes, that looks right. The way I worked it out would only be correct if the order were important. Thanks

Saw it on telly today, ABC actually, so it HAS to be true. $54mill invest and you will have picked a winner. Only problem is if someone else ALSO wins....
