For sure! They also should make a compulsory registration for pedestrians. Because your paying depending on how many cylinders you have on your car, the fater you are and the more you should pay!
But more seriously, I wouldn't be against if it was only $15 a year and that can give your bike a littlle bit more protection against the thiefts...
How many adult cyclists would you think own a car ? While riding their bikes, with their cars parked at home, they are not contributing to wear and tear on the roads, and polluting the air by burning precious fuel. Most of the people I hear complaining about cyclists, do not ride a bike themselves.
I enjoy bike riding, but ride as much on the foot path as I can. There are just way too many drivers out there who consider the arrangement of their next social event, via text or phone call far more important than the possibility of killing you, rendering you brain dead, or turning you in to a quadriplegic. What I find really hard to swallow is that not wearing a seat belt attracts a stiffer penalty than screwing with your phone !!! Think that one over.

That's right. And it didn't make the slightest bit of difference to anything except give the cops something else to bust your ass over and something else for other little snots to pinch.
For the small amount of good it did it's not worth the bother. ![]()
If this is brought up cos of the Shane Warne incident, he can go *(&98(#$# . Cyclists are doing the world a favor by leaving their cars at home and not polluting the planet! If aussies cycled more, we'd be a less fatter bunch. Cars are just the SUPs of the land .
if you want an excuse to wear brightly coloured lycra hot pants and shave your legs then buy a bike by all means. it's none of my business.
but if you are going to ride 6 abreast and take up both lanes of the road while ignoring traffic lights and road signs on your way to sip your low fat skinny soy frappa mocha cinos, then you should be held accountable by registration.
I;m on the record here and elsewhere that I am all for it .i ride my bike every day and do most of my commuting shopping etc on my bike . (I also drive a car that has cobwebs over the petrol tank).I am fed up with motorists arguments that bikes don't pay rego and should not be on the roads and are therfore fair game on the roads (there are plenty of dead and maimed cyclists that are the victim of some dickhead drivers crap attitude toward them) .Bring it on I;m happy to pay to shut these ****ers up and also put an end to latte sipping wankers in lycra going for their pack ride pissing motorists off and other bike riding breakers of road rules .Lycra should also be banned for the pretenders ,( except the Cadel Evans's of the world it )Its not needed, stinks and puts prospective riders off from riding a bike (they think that it is some kind of strange requirement for riding a bike)
Not sure where you guys live with riders 6 abreast?? I live bay side in Melbourne and along with a couple of thousand other Lyra clad cyclist ride beach road of a weekend. At least during the earlier part of the morning when the more serious riders are out it is only ever 2 abreast. We the riders are probably the most vocal when another rider breaches either road rules or rider protocol.
As for the Lycra, half of the bike seat is actually built into the seat of the Knicks, without these you will not be able to to walk for the rest of the week.
Finally, a large majority of the cyclist are paid up members of bicycle Victoria. This gives us public liability insurance, some income protection and medical gap insurance and a magazine subscription all for the princely sum of $150 a year for a family. A hell of a lot better value than my KBV membership. Oh and you also get a registration tag you can attach to your bike...
Liar is a bit harsh....
I do agree with one view however that if you get hit by a car you are either dead or mamed, I also agree that a lot of cyclist are more dangerous than the cars around us in fact in my view cycling is more dangerous than when i go kiting or windsurfing.
Careful what you wish for!!!
What would be next.
Windsurfing?
Kiting?
SUP?
Surfing?
Joggers?
the list goes on.
Rego'ing a bike will not lead to better cyclist behaviour - nor will it stop idoit drivers taking out cyclists.
The vast majority of cyclists and drivers co-exhist in harmony - leave it at that.
If you read my original posting again you will not see anywhere that I claimed cyclist to be the innocent victims, or anything against car drivers what so ever... Not even sure where the gopro reference comes from, certainly not me.
The point I was trying to make was that in my experience, the cyclists are trying to self regulate poor behavior just as much as we do as kitesurfers. Just as the general public do see this with the kiters it is also not really seen with the cyclists.
Again just as it is with the kite boarders and sailboarders, the poor behavior of a number of individuals does not therefore mean that all are the same and we treat them as such...
I cycle everywhere
I ride between 2 and 400kms every week - week in week out month in month out. Have been for the past 3 years or so.
I wear non branded lycra - why would anyone give a sh!t what cyclists wear or why they wear it.
I also try to do a group ride every Sat am 6am til about 8am when there is little to no traffic on the road.
I'm not sure what the fuss is about. When i'm driving my car and see a pack of cyclists i slow down wait until safe then pass. Why does that create such a drama for some drivers.
I live on Nepean hwy so yes I do drive and ride there constantly. I ride just over 6000 klms a year all on weekends at an average speed of 32 klms/hr. I won't ride weekdays because of the traffic, nor do I usually ride after 10am because of traffic and the cyclist have turned into browns cows. I don't stop for coffee, I wear black Knicks and plain colored tops or one the bike shop gave me. I usually don't ride with groups of more than 10-12
We ride 2 abreast when we can because single file the cars will pass you with inches to spare. When 2 abreast they give you more space. When passing other cyclists the cyclist at the back of the pack will usually check and call if it is clear. When passing parked cars those at the front signal there is an object coming up, also advise of glass on the road or other objects.
I have seen a cyclist spit on cars because a dog in the back seat barked at them, and I have seen P plater car divers deliberately swerving at bikes to give them a scare.
As previously said, don't label everyone the same. It is that kind of attitude that would see Sports like kite surfing banned.....
