Banning smoking in pubs, clubs, resturant, and all public areas (parks, beaches, ect) would go alot further, if Canada Ireland and a host of others can do it so can Aus.

Slightly off topic, there's an opportunity there for investors to jump on the bandwagon of 'packaging' - ie; trendy boxes/covers for the ciggy packets (like your iphone covers & the like). Sadly enough, it will possibly make smoking 'appear' to be trendy again with the kids!

1) Force(!!!) packets to have one of those voice chips U can get in B'day cards - - Open the packet and "3 months closer to death - yeeha"
2) Have a tough case - single cig' dispensed every time opened - have a (3) 2 digit code to unlock the case which randomly changes each time[}:)]

I reckon the money spent chasing faster drop off in new smokers would be better spent paying for graphic anti-smoking advertising bill boards in cheap holiday venues in our region. Dooh - tax free cig's in transit - If U allowed people to bring in 10 cartons it would be cheaper going on holiday 2 Indo' 2 buy your smokes!!
People R 2 creative to be stopped by the packaging - it is easy to re-package.
This point of control with the tbacii companies will likely be lost.
Since I was a kid the most obvious and to my mind the best visual loss of profile has been - banned advertising - no magazines - no venues etc etc, and the more recent approach removing their visibility from the lolli-shop shelf area in every shop / newsagent (very effective) - everywhere I go I would not be aware of cigarettes and their branding nor of the different brands sold - a really major change.
Time to move on go for a fat tax. Who wants to be in allied health without bloody good lifting aids - stuff getting compo' - much sooner be able to exercise / get on with a normal life.

In actual fact, I can see that smoking will be even more popular as the teens buy them & pop the ciggy boxes into their own personalised cases (that match their iphones).
I wonder how long it will take the ciggy companies to find that loophole & give away a 'free-gift' (trendy cover) with every bulk purchase?
