I Remember when ?

In Melbourne it was always called "flake". At lunch time at school we would go and buy "6 of each" and that got you sixpence of chips and sixpence of potato cakes. That got a bit confusing when decimal currency came in.

I used to collect newspapers and sell them to the butchers and the fish and chip shops for a few pennys. I saved up ₤21 that way (and probably blew it on show bags).

We had 4 kids in a two bedroom house that cost ₤4000. When my parents died we sold it for $430,000. The house across the road just sold for $1.2m.

I used to sleep in the dining room and my brother on the couch in the living room.

My sisters used to go out with the boyfriends that had cars with bucket seats. They would put a rug on the gap (over the parking brake ) and sit on that so they could be close.

I remember leaving the beach when it got windy!!!

In South Africa these were known as party lines and it was common practice on a lot of farms to have perpetual listeners so you had to be careful what you said.

A mates old man once confronted one of their neighbours over the line when talking to his brother requesting him to stop listening. To which he replied that he was not!

I remember when I could get a bottle of Bundy for $18!

I remember going to the shop before school and you could buy Eucos (Eucalyptus lollies) for 1c each.

Cans of coke were 60c at the high school canteen.

some people smoked in festival hall in melboune, while attending a concert.

I remember living in Esperance and having no TV only the ABC radio
and going to the drive-in twice a week - but we had to clean the car 1st

I remember the CSIRO proving modern housing "OFF THE POWER GRID" was possible in Canberra some 35 years ago.

Macdonalds had smoking and non-smoking sections

A chocolate Paddle Pop was 5c. Choo Choo bars were 2c.
On my P plates I drove my mum's 56' Vdub to school. After a lunch time surf we put 60c worth of petrol in it and it got us back to school and home again.
try that today!!!!

Remember I had a Honda 4 that got 50 mpg on a trip & fuel was costing me 1 cent per mile.......... so that = 11 cents/litre

i remember when on way on to primary school each morning with my 5 pence

spending money, i would stop at Spar shop and buy packet of crisps [potato chips]

for 3p, still having 2p left for lollies.

I remember the first digital watch with the enormous red numbers you had to activate by pressing the switch, how about the 1st "pocket" electronic calculator.... needed 6 AAA batteries and I could adjust my first car carbie with a screwdriver only! a pack of **** was 60 cents and a pint of beer was cheaper than a coke............ well i hate to remember tels my age but I am still ok I think cause I can still remember
