I remember when they came right out and called it shark - until it was changed to "flake" to appease greenies or something?

In Melbourne it was always called "flake". At lunch time at school we would go and buy "6 of each" and that got you sixpence of chips and sixpence of potato cakes. That got a bit confusing when decimal currency came in.

I used to collect newspapers and sell them to the butchers and the fish and chip shops for a few pennys. I saved up ₤21 that way (and probably blew it on show bags).

We had 4 kids in a two bedroom house that cost ₤4000. When my parents died we sold it for $430,000. The house across the road just sold for $1.2m.

I used to sleep in the dining room and my brother on the couch in the living room.

My sisters used to go out with the boyfriends that had cars with bucket seats. They would put a rug on the gap (over the parking brake ) and sit on that so they could be close.

I remember filling the tank of my first V8 and fuel the previous night had jumped to 34cents a litre. I thought - this will be civil war!

The first time I filled up, (the service station attendant filled the car ) and "super" petrol was 45c............a GALLON.

1 Gallon = 4.54 Ltrs for those that can't remember.

we didnt have mobile phones, and people would have to leave messages or ring back!!

We did not have dials or buttons on the original large clunky bakelite home phone, didn't have to dial, just picked up the phone, chatted to the operator (who more often than not, knew who you were) asked for the number which she (never did find a male telephone operator ) would inevitably say "putting you through now". We also shared a "party" phone line with the neighbours for some years.

these days the likes of Charlie Sheen have put a whole different meaning to the phrase "party line"

Our complete phone number was 396.

In South Africa these were known as party lines and it was common practice on a lot of farms to have perpetual listeners so you had to be careful what you said.

A mates old man once confronted one of their neighbours over the line when talking to his brother requesting him to stop listening. To which he replied that he was not!

Selling gold at $276 an ounce and being stoked. Driving to raglan for a surf and stop at the shell shop on route to check the weather map in the nz herald newspaper. There were never crowds mid week. It would be perfect with 4 others.....oh what has happened?

What chips for $1.20!!
We used to get plenty of hot chips or several big potato scallops for 6 pence (5 cents) wrapped in newspaper on the way home from school. We walked or rode our bikes and it was several miles/kms. No-one ever got dropped at school.

Pot of beer for 20c - in 1970/1, I remember that because I was a Bar Mgr in Mt Isa, and just turned legal age to drink at the time, figure that one out.

watching old surf movies at the town hall.
The boys would set up a projector and all us grommets would froth at "morning of the earth" or one of the other old classics.
The older crew would turn up pissed or stoned.
Hilarious.

I remember the CSIRO proving modern housing "OFF THE POWER GRID" was possible in Canberra some 35 years ago.

What happened to the data?

Why do the pollies want us to install solar that feeds back into the grid now?

Yeah Eucos.

Recess (never like spelling) was a twistie roll, not the chicken flavour unless you were a ****ta washed down with a banana big M.

Vomit material now of course.
