I really wouldn't want to give my baby anything until he/she was ~2 years old and then ONLY for diseases that were prevalent in society.
^ hey you edited your posting ![]()
There already are! A lot of them won't even immunize their kids ;-)
You do realise that your lack of immunization is potentially creating an epidemic for others don't you?
This thread will end in tears..
An emotive issue this one.
So you only want to imunise against prevelant diseases.. so how did those disaeses cease being prevelant (answer - thru immunisation).
So which comes 1st the immunity or immunisation?
Tricky issue and it is not nice for any parent to see a little one jabbed a dozen or so times with (to the lay person) gawd knows what.
My 2c is it's probably the lesser of two evils to go for the jabs.
I have a daughter (year 2) at a good school in WA. As a few Mums in the year group were of the opinion that most of the diseases that you get your kids immunised for are gone they chose to not immunise their kids.
Now one of those kids (non immunised) has contracted whooping cough and has passed it on to half the kids in the class. Now this little girl is very sick, the rest of the class are ok as they were immunised and only got a 'break through' version of the disease that lasted a week at most.
The worst part is that the little girl also has a 3 month old little sister, who now has contracted whooping cough and it has become very serious. The mother in question told my wife the other day that she feels like the worst mother in the world.
let the kids eat bugs, play in the dirt,do really disgusting thing and keep away from all this anti bacterial this and that. plus give them some jabs and teach them to swim![]()
^^ Classic Flysurfer lol..
The thing about immunisation is it only really works if everyone is immunized, as soon as you let a few infected hosts amongst a healthy population it's only a matter of time before the disease in question evolves resistance to the immunized population.
We have only been immunizing humans for a short period, in that time we have almost eliminated many diseases. If we let our guard down then these diseases will all come back. They will evolve, just like the Flu does every year.
Really, people who do not immunize their children are not just putting their own kids at risk, but the whole bloody population. LOL.
Life finds a way.
Er..
Not meaning to offend Flyguy.![]()
I should clarify that I don't mean everyone that chooses not to immunise ia a know-it-all hippy (although it seems most are
).
Wifey often has to deal with very sick kids brought in by many know-it-all hippies, that still manage to retain that smug 'I feel sorry for you - because I am wiser and more in love with the Earth' attidtude
.
Wifey feels sorry for the kids in the vicinty of the know-it-all hippy's kid too.![]()
If the family tax benefit is an issue, you can always fill out the wad of paperwork to become conscientious objectors to immunisation...then you still get the FTB...it's a loophole.
About the link between autism and triple-antigen immunisation. It's now known that that whole research study was totally flawed. The literature resoundingly indicates no link. I was a conscientious objector for my second child. If one is going to take this stand, one must be prepared to keep abreast of new findings...thus I had her immunised at 4.
Regarding the whooping cough....it's a fact of life that immunisation is not foolproof and there's been outbreaks of pertussis (WC); chickenpox; etc; occurring in children who have been immunised.
I agree that our immunisation schedule occurs way too early. I prefer the Japanese model that begins ....I think around 12 months of age...
In a perfect world, all of our babies would be breastfed until at least 1 yr of age enhancing natural immunity. Unfortunately the rates of breastfeeding are at a shockingly low level for such an educated, developed nation....sad times.
Very emotive issue....expect at least a few tirades, tantrums, and 10 pages of comments![]()
A lot of the so callled jabs are multi so maybe 1 jab covers 4 problems that may or may not turn up until later in life when it is not a good time to imunise... What happens to your kid when they jiggy jig with some non imunised other friend who could be positive to a problem that there is no need to be contagious of BECAUSE of imunization when we were young
[}:)]![]()
From memory, Polio is actually on the way out in Aus. But Whooping cough and tetanus, and loads of other things are actually quite common, and potentially "very very bad" to you & your child.
If you don't immunise, you child "might" be lucky, because the rest of us immunise to DRASTICALLY reduce the effects of any "out-breaks".
Paying for motor vehicle insurance is a pain in the bum too. Money can buy a new car....
Emotive issue for sure. My wife had a mates wife say to her she would have blood on her hands if she did not immunise our child which wasnt even born at the time!
Before the recent birth of my first child my wife and I did a ton of research into immunisation. Main reason being is that my wife was working for a charity that supports families with disabled children. The number of cases where the parents claimed their child was perfectly fine until their immunization jab concerned us so we decided to look at the pros and cons of immunisation. We started by looking into the recommended doses and what chemicals were present in the doses plus the potential side effects and the combination of shots. What we found is that there were large camps on both sides for and against and both with compelling cases. What was a concern is that Australia is way behind the US and NZ in its immunisation program. Australia does not offer single dose vaccines and still allows vaccines that contain mercury which are banned in the US. It's these vaccines and combo shots which jabbed into a newborn still developing it's immune system worried us. We looked into trying to obtain single dose vaccines and even importing them but had no luck at all. My wife and I are still in a quandary as to what to do. Delaying the immunisation seems to be one option or not immunising at all another.......
I am not against immunisation just the program forced upon us by our Govt.
