i was in a bush pub a few years ago when a drunk patron started abusing the barmaid, and was amazed that no-one, at that end of the bar stood up to him.
2 young blokes at our end started moving towards him , when their boss told them that if they were charged with assault they would lose thier jobs, as they couldnt go on a minesite again.
. It highlights the reality that the idiots that start all the fuss will get as much protection from the law as thier victims, and are often the first to run to the law when someone steps up to them.
on this occasion , the regulars in the pub waited till he'd had a few more, and staggered off to the loo, so he got his just desserts
Years ago I took a group of school kids on an excursion from Narrabeen to the Manly wharf and then onto Circular Quay. 4 male teachers and 40 teenage school kids on public transport is usually not a problem. Usually.
While coming back from Manly, a drunk male got on the bus and started to leer at, pass comments on and verbally abuse some of the kids. They were upset by his abuse.
So, the youngest, fittest teacher went up to the drunk and asked him to stop his behaviour. The drunk replied "F*** Orf. Are you going to make me?" Our hero teacher replied "Yes" and told the bus driver to stop at the next stop. When the bus stopped the doors opened and our hero yelled in the face of the drunk "Now get off!!"
The drunk was so shocked he got off. A cheer and round of applause from all on the bus followed.
Obviously this situation was pretty well handled by an experienced teacher, who also had the back up of 3 other males and a host of kids. It would have been irresponsible for the teachers to ignore what was happening to students in their care.
We were lucky that was all that happened.
"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. "
It's a sad reflection on society when people don't intervene out of fear. Even sadder as it will inevitably lead to an increase in bad behavior as a generation is taught by society that they can get away with anything.
