In my industry, as many others, time is money. When at work why the heck should smokers be allowed or think it's okay to pop outside 8 times a day for 5-10mins and chug away while non-smokers continue on? Policy (work place or government) is put aside in this area, more so if a senior/manager is one of these types. Fark if I like it, smoking during work hours should stop across the board...Bugga off chugga's, this is real work place harassment - you and your stinky breath.

Don't worry, they eventually do !!
I went to the funeral of a 53yo workmate last week who passed away from throat cancer due to 30 odd years of chugging. He lasted a little over 18 months from diagnosis.... RIP

How about going to get a coffee 5 x a day and chatting for a couple mins at the sink / urn etc area?
Shall we ban coffee at work?

Maybe the smoker works 1% faster and is still ahead of the employee who does just enough to not get sacked and has no drive whatsoever?

In my industry, I would NEVER DISCRIMINATE against a smoker... I tell you why... 3 of the most competent colleagues that I know are smokers... They will wander off down stairs for a ciggie, clear the mind, have a little break... Gives them a moment to refocus, and focus on the more important things... The cost significant issues... Come back up, and plough right back into it...

There's another bunch of other people that have a break and start talking to each other, and now you have 2 or 3 people not working... (on company time ).

If I was employing, I would have these 3 "smokers" on top of my list!! Great blokes...

PS - I'm not a smoker.
PSS - I understand the concept... smoker is smoking, not working... When your work requires thought, or deep thought, a smoker can kick back and "think" about the important things... Smoking breaks can actually be quite productive for some people, in certain professions... Engineering, Design, Creative Arts... Flip side, a smoker in a call centre needs to stop their mundane work for a ciggie... Two sides to this coin peoples!!

There, fixed that for ya Simondo.

A non-smoker here, but breaks are necessary for both creativity & productivity IMO.

+1. People complain about other inconveniencing them, but where do we draw the line? Stop fat people taking lunch because they slower walking around the office and inconvenience us sitting next to us on a plane or take more sick leave due to poor health? Imagine the uproar.

I can understand things like stopping people smoking in cars with their kids, but at some point we have to draw a line in the sand or before you know it, the canteens will only stock rabbit food and water and people will be forced to cycle to work.

With the trade I was in, I absolutely loathed having smokers on my crew, couldnt keep far enough away from them for my liking.

When I was a smoker - 15 years ago, I made a lot more friends in the office, whist we were outside having a smoke break. People I would not normally talk to or interact with.Work as also usually the topic of discussion.
I miss that interaction. Its the only thing I miss about smoking..

It will be a sad day when you life is so controlled by the people you work for you cant even go out side for a 10 minute break.

I knew a young woman once... She smoked like a chimney. Lying in bed, her pores were just oozing with nicotine and cigarette smoke smells. But her appetite for sex could be described as being between "extremely impressive", and "insatiable"!

She could orgasm from intercourse whether she was on top or below or infront. In a decent over-night session I might score four home runs compared to her 10!! Insatiable! So I happily put up with her cigarettes !

well put i this way, if on checkin at the airport I weigh 80 kilos and have an allocation of twenty kilos baggage and I am over then I pay excess, if as what happened, the guy in front at the checkin weighed 120+ kilos and was under the allocation of 20 kilos and paid nothing, rules are rules but are a little skewed for political correctness

Imagine the amount of taxpayers money it is going to cost to implement the changes to plain packaging on cigarettes. Then the extra costs involved in trying to police it and stop illegal trade of imported products. And the millions of dollars a year the australian government spends on rubbish advertising.

Millions of dollars of our money that will not change a thing.

If the Australian government does not want its citizens to smoke cigarettes. Why are they still allowed to be sold at every supermarket and service station across the country. It is complete hypocrisy.

They don't want people to quit smoking. They make too much revenue out of it. If they really
want Australians to stop smoking, they would ban the sale of tobacco products in this country.

So would you like to apply the same ethic to obese people who continue to have bad diets, drug addicts, alcoholics, gambling addicts or let's just say anybody with any addiction is denied any help until they become non addicted.

You are such a sanctimonious prick pr.
