whats the go i moved house 3 months ago and forgot to update my details i was told at the polling place the rules have changed and i couldnt vote not even a absentee vote how many other people got this??? my right to vote was taken away because of an adress not happy....
Not gettin "snotty" shark.
Just sick of the arrogance of people saying "we already said No".
Does that mean the whole generation that weren't able to vote last time shouldn't get a say?
Whether it gets in or not I hope it (and many other issues) are discussed and voted on in future years, so we can continue to evolve and improve our way of life for the majority.
Or are those who said "No" before that wise that they know what is best for future generations.
Using that argument maybe you'd like to re-run the referendum about Federation?
Anyway, the NO vote has won.
I voted yes but only because I windsurf and I can sail longer after work.
However I agree with many of the principles the NO people cite.
Mark
Yeah I would like to re-run it.
Along with a few other issues like trading hours, the death penalty, euthanasia and a whole host of others.
I can't see a fairer way than revisiting important issues every few years as attitudes towards them change.
Though because its such a huge cost to taxpayers it would be nice to have them all in the same referendum (say every 5 or 10 years).
But that would be too logical for those running this circus.
But as you said "Anyway, the NO vote has won."
Which personally I think sucks but Im glad we all got a say and that the majority have won. Nothing fairer than that.
Hope its looked at again in another 5 or 10 years!
I think it's fair to assume that a vast majority of younger people voted in favour of Daylight Savings.
However, we are a top-heavy country (WA included) - if you look at the age demographic, we're pretty old and getting older. From the people I've talked to, a majority of the older crew voted against Daylight Savings.
It follows that when the dinosaurs die we'll get DLS!
About 30 thousand children a day die from starvation.
We spend about ten million dollars trying to work out whether we should get out of bed an hour earlier or not.
Can you imagine what God must think of us?
A state peopled by idiots and governed by fools
I like daylight saving why would retired people think it was bad when they do not have anysort of timeframe to do anything in only people who work should of got the choice it sucks now i cant go windsurfing in summer after work.
Sigh.. another nail in the dullsville coffin. ![]()
Time to start thinking of excuses to skip out an hour ealry from work next summer. ![]()
Oh well - we had a crack at it and the stick in the mud didn't budge. Time to move on... ![]()
Well I'm just so happy!
But then I'm just;
Old
Stupid
Retarded
A dinasaur
A woman (geez, hang on. That's not right. But then if i'm all the others I could just be confused on that one too.)
Anti Business
No life
Can't afford new curtains
A farmer
and many many more
or all of the above
Anyone who enjoys windsurfing and voted NO for DLS is fair dinkum one phuct up individual kook who cant windsurf in the first place to save their old, stupid, retarded, dinosaur licking sorry arse![]()
Even if you can windsurf why wouldnt you help your West Australian windsurfing mates out and vote YES? Huh?
Hmm. Elmo and Greenroom, 2 blokes who agree but can't admit it. ![]()
Warning: long.
I voted YES from the purely selfish point of view that I can sail more easily after work if I finish at 1600 and it is a 90min drive to the water. BUT.....
It sh1ts me really badly that if you are against DLS you must be dumb or something, apparently.
Fact: it is harder on country people. Try to get kids to sleep at 9:00pm in 35deg heat and not a whisper of breeze. School still starts at 0900 regardless, and for kids that have to take a 1hr bus trip that means getting up at 0630. Let me do the math for the YES people. Kids get up at same time but actaully get to sleep 1 hr later. FACT. Kids with 1hr less sleep = bad. Simple.
Fact: the curtain fading was one dumb old woman who made a dumb error 15yrs ago. Now the YES crowd dig it up with monotonous regularity to take the p1ss. Not one person in the NO crowd actually believes it, get over it you condescending w^nkers.
Fact: forget the stats on traffic crashes etc. They are all from overseas where it gets really dark at 6:00pm in summer. An extra hour of daylight (that is, peak hour is LIGHTER) reduced crashes. In WA it reall has no bearing and no WA study has ever been done. So it is ridiculous to talk about it may reduce crashes.
Fact: power use goes up due to more aircons turned on.
Now the rant. Dullsville: Geez that term sh1ts me
-I like the fact I don't have to pay for parking at the beach. Any beach.
-I like the fact we don't have ethnic gangs roaming the streets
-I like the fact I can go for a windsurf or fish ANYWHERE along the Swan River. None of it is inaccessable due to boardwalks, restaurants and boat clubs.
- I like the fact that anyone on a middle class income can be 20min from the City, 20min from the beach for a kite/windsurf, 20min from the airport, 20min from the entertainment precints of Northbridge and Fremantle, and within 1hr can be at a really top wavesailing spot. Try to get ALL that in Sydney or Melbourne.
- I like the fact that within 30min of the City I can mountain bike, and fish, and catch marron, and go shooting, and fly a glider (real one), ride a land yacht, have access to MX tracks (heaps), put my boat in the ocean at one of 20 spots and catch world class fish, or scuba dive on majestic reefs.
If the opposite of Dullsville is 24hr shopping and stress cos we're always working, something that looks like Singapore, Sydney or Saudi, I'm not interested, sorry.
If you want Tokyo, move your arse over there and stop calling Perth Dullsville.
Yeah dude agree with all the above
but it really sh1ts me that as soon as you say you are voting NO you get the consdescending look from the chardonnay set who think you must be a curtain-fading dairy farmer hick retard (before anyone gets upset, read my post above)
well no problem now as we have voted NO 4 times, so there will be no more votes ever.
Just like extended shopping hours.
Ha farkin HA
As Elmo said elsewhere - time to get over it for another decade or so. Selfishly I think its a shame - for my WS and kids (more time to do things outside with them when i get home after work). Also think it would have helped the local WS/KS shops, with more people WS/KS more often. But thats life.
Whatever pharroh and others may think the vate has been taken
Can you understand NO
True idiot....
I would have taken the result whatever it was and depsite the footy team I follow. Only a true idot would confuse the two and bring them into the same arguement.
I feel saddend that WA'ers have once again resisted a beneficial change.
I have yet to read see or hear of a valid rational reason why DLS won't work.
The same will happen with extended trading hours and Sunday trading no doubt.
However what amazes me is the passion that has embraced this (essentially meaningless) debate when other issues like Okajee barely get a mention. Ah i forgot mass destruction land rape and selling our natural resources overseas are beneficial......
I guess it comes down to selfishness DLS effects our immediate life, Okajee and other major global events don't.
