I left my pump at Safety Bay about 10 years ago, if you have it please send it to dbabicwa

Was it grey? Did you leave it on the grass near SBYC? I think I have it.

another way to combat this is to charge them a pump rental fee and take their credit card details and proof of ID as insurance

Calling a stranger a mate, perplexes me. 'Can i borrow your pump Mate' is also poor English and impolite. Firstly i may share a common sport but that does not mean i am your mate. Secondly, where are your manners. So unless you say 'May i borrow your pump please' I should be inclined to send your hide back to school and carry on with my day.

I have leant my pump out every now and then (probably happens once every 2 months). I don't see the problem, I just ask people to take it be gentle with it and it comes back in good condition. I'd hope if I didn't have my pump with me, or it broke someone would lend me theirs.

That being said I can understand people's frustration if its a chronic issue from the same person.

Just because an individual has poor grammar doesn't mean they don't deserve a hand. Might be taking that one a tad too far mate

I am one of those disgusting Euros and have lent my pump to other disgusting Euros, to Aussies, to Kiwis, to Yanks and I have never had any issue...oh, and I say "mate" to strangers, too. Actually, everybody I meet on the beach does!?
Peace and harmony, brothers!

I lend mine out whenever asked, that being said, I have lent it out to a couple of teachers from schools, and then found it lying amongst there gear after i've finished my session. Thats kind of annoying... Wouldn't stop me loaning it out again though

I always lend my pump if someone asks, i was just pointing out the simple word 'please' it really goes a long way, but 'mate' is not the correct word to use.

All right Mate! :)

first of all i'm no expert on the english language my grammar and punctuation is atrocious (but i am an aussie born and raised)

I can totally see your point with not saying please . . .

But the use of "mate" in this country does not insinuate that you are a friend neither does it infer that they want to be your friend.

It is a colloquialism and it is used 99% of the time in that context.

to think everyone in australia who call's you mate wants to be your friend is mildly egotistical at best

I lend my pump out all the time, with one simple instruction " Don't shock load it !" I've had a couple of mates fck a pump of mine over the years. On both of those occassions , the kite was fully inflated, but in an effort to get max psi, then they decided to use maximum force, by bringing body mass in to the equation at the top of a stroke .

I'm sure some of yiz are familiar with the popping sound the valve makes when dislodged . Shock loads fck pumps most of the time, that's my experience anyway, J

Whole lot of selfish, old grumpy grannies on this topic. A few years from now, when kiters are hating on each other, like most surfers do in the line up these days, remember your part in creating that vibe. Or you could just lend your goddam pump and stop being such a f**k knuckle. I've been on both sides of the equation - lent and borrowed. That kind of camradarie with strangers makes this sport unique in my opinion. So if I ask, and you say no. Fine. Don't wanna know you anyway, you old Scrooge.

Not calling someone ( mate ) is un-Australian.
I will let all of you borrow my pump if you pump my kite up first.

If someone is polite enough to ask they'll prob put it back.

For everyone else if you get stuck and there is one left with someone's gear, put it back for ****s sake and treat it like its your baby.

hahaha i'll try that next time "can i borrow your pump ** head". and if they say no i'll say "stop being a F*ck knucle"

imagine if people talked face to face like they do posting on a forum hiding being a computer with a fake name!!.

ahhh i'm amused at the pump rage. there must be an inordinate amount of pump related altercations in wa....

Maybe i'm too trusting. There was one time a guy I sorta knew left his pump behind. I was already launched and ready to go. So i told him how to break into my car so he could steal the pump and use it. The dude used the pump, put it back, didn't steel my car and everyone was happy.

Maybe its a bit of karma paying back the angry F*cktards.

I say pay it foward boys. Lend that pump. hell go an buy a second pump and lend it with reckless abandon. While your lending your pump. launch and land some guys and give a newbie some advice.... and grin like a school boy whose just found his old mans stick mag collection. you might discover the world is not as bad as you think!

as rowdy will agree i'm sure, if a real aussie was to ask a mate if they could borrow a pump, it would be:

can i borrow your pump, c**t

mate since when do we give a flying **** about the english language . We butcher it and shorten words to how we like it . And mate isn't impolite . If you want next time i see you i will come up and say " Hey f$ckwit, give me your pump you c0cksucker"

Would that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside ?

Get a permanent marker /stencil/spray and get artistic on your pump. Ones where I bothered to do this lasted until they wore out, never taken by accident and if i ever left it behind would always make their way back somehow. Loaned it out with no issues ever.

I just put a no-brand Big W pump next to a branded kite pump then pulled them both apart. They looked like they have come from the same mould bar a few small differences. Metal shaft v plastic, kite leash thingy and better valves internally. Probably cost an extra 20 cents to produce and doesn't equate to an extra $25 at the shop, but I can't see the cheapie lasting as long as a better one.
