The best way to deal with localism is to put a few stickers on your car
eg:
1) A large "Winchester Rifles", Remington etc..... sticker accross the back window
2) I hunt and I VOTE sticker
3) Shooters Rights etc......
for full effect any of the above stickers should be accompanied by the mandatory Bundy, Jack or Jim sticker and a healthy use of foul language upon exiting the vehicle feel free to huck back some phlegm and spit it into the air to check wind strength also.........

just upwind from where werners school is on the southern end of town is where most people kite and is where water is flat and you can ride there, i was told by the rangers to just stay upwind of those wooden poles on the beach.
that spot to the northern end you spoke of works really well too, guess you just got to get there and have a look at where looks best for the conditions.. if its real southerly at the north point its a bit harder to get back to the beach
You can kite at the North Point as in your link, however the South Point at the very South end of the town is better, but as mentioned in the thread don't launch on the grassed area walk a bit further south towards the point or if you have a 4x4 drive down to the point.
The club house that you are refering to is probably actually the tavern and yes it is no good there.

the ranger is full of hot air..he is always saying you will get a fine but have not heard of one being handed out...
just pump up on other side of posts...there are photos on gin gin website displaying the boundrys..he can't touch you...

Last I checked WA was a pretty big place. Leave the angry people to their little bit of paradise. You'll have a much better day elsewhere even if the waves are not perfect. So glad we don't have these problems in the east.
How did this rift between kiters and windsurfers happen, anyway? From what I've read it seems pretty one sided ie windsurfers hate kiters, but no specific incidents have ever been cited that could produce such blanket discrimination
Yesterday one of the local shire rangers issued the first fine to a local kiter for setting up on the northern side of the grassed area (on the beach), an area where he has set up many, many times before. He was of the impression that this area is away from the lawn area and ok for rigging up. The ranger I mentioned in a previous post as reasonable apparently blew up was yelling at him, accusing him of flaunting the by law and having no respect, etc, etc. He didn't even have his lines connected.
The new laws effectively ban kiting from the northern end of the park to a distance of 2 km, Lancelin Island point, this includes a ban on setting up at the jetty, the main launch area for South Passage. 200m from the southern end of the park is also banned, leaving only the point at Eddies. The track to the point has blown out and is only accessable by 4wd. This means that if you park in the carpark, walk through the lawn area with your gear to access the point, potentially you can be fined.
Be aware Werner is taking photos of everything associated with kiting and is on the phone to the rangers whenever a kiter enters the park with their gear, packed or unpacked.
The local is a member of WAKSA and has indicated he will be in contact.
Funnily enough he is also one of the best windsurfers at Main Break.
WAKSA has been in contact with the shire of Gin Gin due to recent problems.
It seems the issue was attacked too late mainly because of lack of information. Dont know where this is heading at the moment but here is the official responce from the head ranger.
We can use the park, just dont inflate the kite, leave it in the bag. Use the showers and any public facilitys, thats about it.

Kite surfing activities have been prohibited from Grace Darling Park because of safety concerns raised by community members. This park is heavily used in season by many water activity user groups and families that picnic at the provided barbeques. It is thought that for best safety practice the activity of kite surfing should be undertaken away from this area. The two areas where kite surfing should be undertaken is to the south at the Edward Island beach or further to the north at 'the point'
The intent was not to discourage kite surfing in Lancelin but to move it to a more appropriate place.
At Council' s Ordinary meeting held on the 30th of April, 2009 the following resolution was passed.
Resolution 09.0112
Moved Councillor Brady that Council, consistent with Resolution 09.0059 and in the absence of any submissions regarding the matter:
1. Prohibit kite surfing activities from portion of Reserve 32942, Grace Darling Park, Lancelin including the beach area directly to the west;
2. Legitimise the existing signs prohibiting kite surfing activities from Portion of Reserve 32942, Grace Darling Park, Lancelin; and
3. Increase signage in order to encourage kite surfers to use the area in the vicinity of Edward Island Point.
CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY
'Kite surfing activities' would mean the setting up or packing up of the equipmnmet related to kite surfing as well as the actual activity itself.
To allow kite surfers to pump up their kite canopy on this area would be in breach of the regulation. Whilst I understand that that in itself would not present a serious hazard to the general public it would be very difficult for attending Rangers to Police the regulations if we were to allow some activities and not others.
The penalty for a breach of the regulations reads as follows;
10.3(1) Any person who fails to do anything required or directed to be done under this local law, or who does anything which under this local law that person is prohibited from doing , commits an offence.
(2)Any person who commits an offence under this local law is liable ,upon conviction , to a penalty not exceeding $5,000, and if the offence is of a continuing nature, to an additional penalty not exceeding $500 for each day or part of a day during which the offence has continued.
The prescribed modified penalty is $100-00.
Kite surfers are not forbidden to use any public facilities in Lancelin provided they are not undertaking kite surfing activities at Grace Darling Park.

Werner gets on the blower and summons the ranger and our poor old punter faces a $5k fine for his/her efforts in trying to avoid death!
PS and to ban launch/land from the north side of the jetty is just ludicrous

Anyone who actually coughs up a fine for inflating or packing a kite in the wanker's area is a cock head.
They can stick their fine up where the sun don't shine because I will never give them my name, I will tell the ranger get #$%^ and if they find out who I am from the rego of my car I would challenge it all the way to court.
I can already smell the goodie police red thumbing me for arrogant attitude and no respect for the laws in place.
My motto is if a law is stupid, it doesn't apply to me and this one is definately up there in my book.

Anyhow, Werner is no different from emotions when there is territorial war at hand.
Lano and that whole stretch to Gero. is under siege and all the "locals," are afraid of coming change. The poor cray fish professionals are losing their lively hood and it is all about the go go growth story and of course the almighty buck.
The people of this coast are feeling their live style threatened. Lano is changing from fishing town to tourist town while Wedge Squatters community is going to be bull dozed to make way for a caravan park. Everyone that "was there first" is being displaced and made to face rapid change. That is why everyone is so on edge, including Werner. The poor Shire of Gin Gin is overwhelmed too and thus is reacting as a fast shooting overlord would.
What the kn place needs is some love and make something positive out of change....it can really be a good thing. A whole wonderful coast with km and km for water and sand sport and the people up there are behaving like a bunch of small minded nin com poops......
If Gin Gin and Lancillin were smart they would promote kiting in the designated area, maybe build a shade hut, a grassy launch area, showers and clean up the track for 2wd's - Its such a pity Werner & the 'bad ranger' seem so intent on giving kiters a hard time.

Rowly that is really sad...but from what you say it sounds like the disease of one sick man has infected a handful at Lano. These people should really be shooting camels out of helicopters to let our their aggressions........and helis crash too.
Well if Gin Gin is going to make Lano a wind surf zone then Wedge should become a kite surf zone.......design the Wedge Caravan Park to handle 300 kiters comfortably and perhaps KS could be there, the place certainly has the goods.
What about the exact opposite. I.e. avoid the place altogether and let it affect their bottom line until the change their stance.
If Lancelin is becoming a tourist town, do everything in our power to make sure everyone, kitesurfers and non-kitesurfers alike, avoid the place and make sure the residents who voted "unanimously" in favour of Werner realise that if they do stupid things, their economy will suffer.
It may be worth notifying the council of the intention to boycott the place to ensure they understand the impact of their decisions.
