Oh-sh1t handles...where are they ? ^^^
I can't see any.
I saw this pic in the gear section and it was the first thing that I noticed.
Did Core forget to put them on ?
Shouldn't oh-sh1ts be standard on all bars ??
A bar with oh-sh1ts is safer than a bar without them.
Are Oh sh1ts still necessary?
Been kiting for three years and have got into some situations but have never once reached for the Oh Sh1ts. I cant think of a reason why I would.
So why bother?![]()
Doing spins may roll the safety line around the trim line, so that the safety line snag and if you release the kite you are there for a ride....that time it is sweet to grab a line that will definitely flag the kite and release (a sigh)...
This thing with snagged safety line may not happen often (hopefully), but when it does...believe me....it's not nice...and it's good to have an alternative....
it has a mini 5th line tho, so no real need..plenty of bars dont have them aswell, for example naish and north...
Sorry to sound dumb but what are oh s**t handles. My sone rides a GT and i am not sure what they are...
The only bars I know of in the 2010 ranges that DO have oh-****s are Slingshot & Best... Cabrinha, Ozone, Core, Airush, North, Naish, Liquid Force, and many of the other big (and not so big) brands have done away with them...
I agree they're useful on the front lines - but i've never seen them used on the rears...
If you snap a front line especially the one your saftey leash attaches to and your out to sea or in deep water you will probably be glad to have them. Has happened to me before with and without OSH's on the bar and it makes it tons easier if you have them to self rescue, especially if the wind is strong.
except the port and starboard 'red and green'
kite manufacturers seem to think they are tooo cool for school!
Is there any advantage of pulling either OSR if you break a front line?
Wouldn't grabbing the remaining front still be the best option?
In the case of the Core bar this would be achieved by simply flagging the kite as normal.
Also, does worry me if a noob pulled them in strong winds while still holding the bar (kiteloop time!!).
I did like using the outside OSR's for reverse launching in light winds. Can see wisdom in a front line OSR only if there is no leash option to a single front line.
Its painfully obvious that in case of CORE bar OSR are useless and as a matter of fact impossible to incorporate into bar design due to Y shape of the fronts.
As pointed out almost all manuf. gave up on OSR , Best still have them cos they are very slow to copy others, but wait another year or two and theirs bars will be free of them.
.Also if you use CORE bar youll never break any lines, correct me if Im wrong but to my knowledge they are the only lines made not by crap makers- CHINA, but by German manuf. in GERMANY.
The bar in the photo is upside down, hence the hook facing up which given the correct orientation places the red line on the left!!
I think many manufacturers have gone away from OS handles on the stearing lines because if you release onto a stearing line and there is a snag you're instantly into a spiral. Hence you'll find most flagging lines are now on a centre line.
I think the mini 5th line solves that problem
the mini 5th line is a great system imho
wouldnt think twice in flicking the qr if it's all going pear shaped
I don't think OSH ever did anything particularly useful.
I think if you tried to release a powered kite to an OSH it would just rip it right out of your hands and probably take a chunk of flesh in the process.
Much better to use the standard safety systems for their intended purpose.
I'm with Cesary. ^ Attaching your safety to a stearing line and having the safety prevent a smooth release if it's twisted around the bar end can cause a spiral. One of the few down sides of modern kites is that they pivot from the centre and won't crash if they spiral. Older kites used to pivot from a wingtip (slower turning) and crash early if a spiral was to happen.
