Not!!
Anyone else that might have a rumor of changing?
rubbish gear and overpriced. did you really need to ask. i suppose if you aren't paying for it, then it's ok.
but good on steven, bloke has to make a living, and gaypryde has probably got the biggest budget out there.
And you base you comment on what? Because you tried every single sail in the entire range?
It be like me saying Ferrari sucks a*s because the 360 I drove for an hour was lame compared to the Porsche GT3.
And why do these discussion always have to immediately drift of into brand bashing?
^^haha ok..

Nickelback also has fans.
There is no point trying to explain why they are balls to a Nickelback fan, but it's still funny pointing it out...
I don't dispute that they have some quality sails. It's just the vibe, of the thing..
Everyone can have their own view on Neil Pryde sails, their marketing, quality etc but one fact remains unchanged - they do an amazing amount for our sport through their demo trailors, learn to windsurf days, sponsoring of Nationals and State based windsurfing events.
Without Neil Pryde in windsurfing, especially in Australia, we would be a lot worse off.
Back to the original post, does it actually make any difference to your views on what to buy? If Levi Siver bought Gun Sails would you be more inclined to buy them? My personal view is that it doesn't make any difference at all and I don't even know who Steven van Broek is.
I don't think you can put nickleback and gaypryde in the same bracket. Nicklecrack are WAY gayer like unprotected bum se x gay, with loads of gays...with aids
Where did all the Gay posts go? I put a lot of effort into those!!![]()
I note, it's OK to relentlessly call Kitesurfers Gay, and also Freestyle windsurfing is flaming Gay. Boardshorts over wetsuit? TOTALLY GAY.. But the line is crossed when Gay in used in an unintelligent play on words to describe peeps fav brand..... You're labeled a Bigot..
Anywho..
Steven Van-Dinky-Donk is the Freestyle Champ, it was his second year on the tour.. He used to sail F2 and had a board called the Rodeo which he made his own, this is a popular board as it was a dedicated freestyle, unlike the freeride boards Jp sell..
We all asked him years ago why he wasn't taking the Big Bucks (relatively) from a big brand, and he said he liked the Rodeo, and he liked the people at F2.. They supported him when he was nobody..
If there is an underground scene in windsurfing, it's freestyle.. Old people Speed sail, those that are lucky wave sail, but freestyle is where it's at..
NilPryde, don't care about freestyle, because freestyle sailors don't buy Pryde.. It's simply Pryde cashing in on the credibility of Steven, the first 'white guy' to win..
And sure NP put more money back into the sport than others, that's because the others don't have any money spare.. NP has the fanbois, they get the money, and buy the riders, to brainwash the fanbois.. It's full corporate, all strategy, to make cash.. The other brands don't know much about making money, they just do it because windsurfing is fun..
McDonalds sponsor sports carnivals, they still sell garbage..
Barnman
I don't do freestyle (except involuntarily)
But I do use NP as I like the feel of their wave sails. Hate the lack of longevity and the price, but anyway back on track..... I like the vibe, it's Mabo, it's everything, so I use them.
My biggest sail is a Firefly as it is a freestyle sail and I like the extra power on the light days.
I love it - real grunty down low but nice n stable up top end, and not real heavy.
I thought that is what a freestyle sail should be ..... given I dont freestyle I was wondering what your issue/s with NP freestyle sail/s is/are?
In my opinion... a lot of the gear out these days are fairly similar in performance. Neil Pryde charge a premium price for what is an average sail. If you can pay less for a similarly average, or better wavesail, then why would you buy the NP sail?
I'm happy to be on the Severne bandwagon at the moment, because it gives in my opinion superior performance (I think the 5.6 S-1 has got better bottom end and similar wind range to the 5.7 Firefly), is a lot lighter, and is also cheaper then sails by NP & North etc.
But I basically don't exhibit any brand loyalty at all. I buy whatever on the market has the best bang for buck at the time. I think its a fallacy to continue buying the same brand of gear all the time, because just as car manufacturers release some good models, and some bad models, sail manufacturers are the same. Sometimes they drop the ball, get lazy whatever.
As someone who doesn't buy new sales very often, if at all.
How does the price of Severne and NP compare?
for example what the price of a new 5m freestyle sail or a 7.5m freerace?
I notice most the smaller severne sails only rig on a RDM mast.
Worth changing for smaller gear. ie freestyle and wave?
Wait, what? Nickleback use Neil Pryde gear? ![]()
...Anyone interested in some '09 Alphas, from when they still looked cool?
