it's interesting that the kiting fraternity are interested in image so much.
doesn't bother me, each to their own i guess......
i will let you in on a secret though.
Gestalt,
Looks like someone is puckering up and taking offence to your recent posts. ![]()
BTW - Talking about Architecture, we made the front page of the Courier-Mail today.

I was really worried that the clip was going to have a "crying game" ending ![]()
nooooooo..........
I'm so totally into image, I really care how I look when I'm windsurfing, in fact it;s the most important thing to me, I'd rather look good on the water than get 40kts![]()
If those vids were viewable while windsurfing then
yes, I may have to wear boardshorts over my wetsuit. ![]()
... Do kiters get hard-ons all the time or something? Lack of control?
well i'll put my neck out and hazard a guess.
a site of political significance requires an architectural response of significance.
in my mind sausage has paid tribute to the history.
by detaching the gallery from the ground, sausage has cleverly introduced public space below and emphasize the significance of the original site.
the lofted gallery, symbolic of the canopy of the tree, takes on a sculptural form which overshadows and blurs the threshold for the user.![]()
or as the paper said it's a modernist box, which probably should have said brutalist box. neo-brutalism maybe.

Back to the original topic...what was it again?
Oh yeah - image...
Me windsurfing - white gath, orange (NP) harness, white h/lines (note-don't let a mate choose gear for you
), sails with more duct-tape than mono, board with glassed holes from repairs (never painted over), buckled toes, hairy shoulders, bald head, beer gut, and a damn ugly sailor to boot!
Image is nothing...If I'm having fun, I don't care how bad I look!![]()
hi sailhack,
the structure has caused debate and i for one see that as a win.
when i referred to the threshold, i was referring to the point at which the "user" experiences the space created by the form. in this case, the cantilevered gallery and lofted scale means there is no real point at which the user can say for certain they have reached the threshold (at ground level).
i am a big fan of brutalism and moderism. take the qld performaing arts complex for eg.
unfortunately the downfall for both philosophies was not because they were ugly. in their purest form both forms of architecture are not about aesthetics. they are about the philosophy of the design.
it was that confusion that ended the rein of moderest architecture when too many copies that missed the whole point were created around the world that didn't look the part due to poor proportions and poor function.
