Leave the remote helicopter's for the girls (kiters), we only use the real thing! Seriously though, the cost is actually quite reasonable $1,000 hr. - minimum of 3 hour's to do it but 4-5 hour's to do it properly (including wavesailing).
It's not like Lancelin can't afford it, since we've been doing it entry's have doubled, sponsorship has increased dramatically resulting in extra revenue of between $20,000 -$40,000 and no increase in prizemoney. I've been organising the helicopter and paying for it each year and keep getting told "next year there'll be more money for it". In this time not 1 cent has been contributed by any windsurfing businesses either. I think the time has come for more of a contribution from other's instead of leaving me with the financial burden plus the 150 hrs it require's to organise and photograph each event.
In response to this forums comment from Birdseyeview regading a helicopter in attendance at the Lancelin Ocean Classic.
To this time, 12th November 2009 The Lancelin Chamber of Commerce has not received any correspondence or a quotation from Birdseyeview in respect to a helicopter being in attendance for the ocean marathon or wave events.
Birdseyeview has been present in the past but this was purely of their own volition with no agreement in place with the Chamber of Commerce.
If Birdseyeview or any other business wish to present a proposal for the 2010 event, we are happy to review and see if we can accomodate within our budget.
Further, to state that we have received up to $40,000 in sponsorship is completly unsubstantiated and not accurate.
The Lancelin Chamber take this opportunity to welcome all sailors to Lancelin during the 2009/10 windsurfing season. We are all working hard behind the scenes to make the 25th event as safe and memorable as possible for all who take on the challenge of sailing in this now world famous event.
We look forward to meeting as many of you as possible during the 4 days of the regatta.
Good Luck and safe sailing to all
Chairman Ron and the Committee of the LANCELIN OCEAN CLASSIC

Hi Locadmin,
Great to see that there's someone on the other end. Emails in the past have gone unanswered.
Can you please fix up the registration process? Every time I've registered it appears not to have worked, no emails get sent to me, there's no confirmation of any kind (even a new page that says "Your registration has been accepted").
However based on anecdotal evidence the registrations are going through. I have no idea what my number is, or how to pay properly.
Also payment via cheque only is a bit antiquated, how about setting up a Paypal account?
The event itself, however, is reasonably well run, and I've enjoyed it the past two years that I attended.
Hi Nebbian
I will look into your queries and get some testing done on the rego form.
I agree, its time the LOC accepted electonic payments. We have already agreed that we need to get paypal up and running, again, I will enquire and get this managed ASAP.
Everyone can make a direct payment to the LOC account. These details are on the web site, perhaps not detailed well enough.

Hi Julia,
I think you better check with Rob Goyen, he asked for a quote several months ago and one was given. His response was "that seems a little high" when it was actually less than it cost's to fly there and this included all the photography to be done for free.
I think the helicopter, and the footage we see from it, add massively to the event in terms of status, potential media coverage and general excitement.
Can you guys please come to some agreement to get the chopper up there again in 2010?
If someone could put together a half-decent DVD at a reasonable price, including lots of stills, no doubt you would sell plenty of copies to help cover some of your costs.
Well spotted Saltiest1. I wonder which one is right, or even if they've received my payment?
Gee a receipt of some sort would be nice.![]()
