Going through old ones, found this gem from the days of yore in a calendar called "Sydney from Above".

How did you find your board in that jumble?
Raf was pretty close. Its actually the Stubbies Marathon 84' from West Esplanade at Manly to the Spit bridge and back. very light ESE and bloody hard work for your first comp. I parked about 1/2 a k away and lugged my old One Design down to the park. I came in so far back that I heard my name called out as a lucky dip prize winner when I hadnt reached the beach 
I also got yelled at a lot with this strange word "starboard" which I had no idea of. I think I made a few people fall in as I charged blindy through the pack towards Reef Beach.
I have the book "Above Sydney", great photos back then.
Pretty sure guys like Rohan Cudmore etc on Hifly and Mistral race boards did it easy and won.

Hey Grant I was in it too, Thats my Crit D2 (no puns please on the name), had the same problem with the starboard. This was not about the starbord rule but I remember walking to the front of the board and punching some idiot, I remember a large lightning storm where the wind dropped to nothing for half an our 1/2 way thru the race, if I can recall it was manly to Balmoral back to Manly back to Balmoral and then back to Manly again. I've still got the Manly Daily photo of the whole beach, I'll look for it

Hey Piere, it was a coffee table edition taken by the 7 News red chopper back in the day. It has an amazing array of shots in it of the whole of Sydney. My oldies are in it on the rocks at Reef Beach. Also shows an amazing pic of Palmy (Pittwater side) when there were hundreds of windsurfers and no parking. Awesome to think how many people windsurfed back then.
BTW, from memory it was around end of summer as it was getting cooler but I could be wrong. Very long slog around the cliffs to Middle Harbour!!

There was also a shop at the Spit at the time, a couple around B-Bay.
At least 2 schools there too at the time: one near McMorelands pub at Dolls Pt, and one at Kurnell.
Not better times, but simpler times...

I remember buying a sail from the shop in Lyons Rd Drummoyne, just up from Rodd Pt.

Bai Sail and Snow, owned by Pat Walsh and assisted by Col.
Col eventually bought Pat out, but the business went under when the sport slowed.
Rainman used to do the board repairs. He was good but now is retired.
I worked on weekends for them as a sailboard instructor (qualified by the AYF) for quite a few years. Always a lot of fun and sometimes very interesting teaching others to sail.

I was on a Ypsi Wayler in 84 (i think) don't see any in the pic. Maybe they were 1985?

Yep, guess different people have different focus...
That sail far right, middle of the picture with the boardnose in the water: is that sail transparent? is it already monofilm? or whatelse material? As far as I know monofilm came early 90s.
